Students:
There are 21 students total including 10 boys and 11 girls.
Three of my student have IEPs. Two of the students have
ADHD and another has a reading learning disability.

Grade Level:
Third Grade

Math Center:
Restaurant and Cash Register
Space:
This will be in the back corner of my classroom.

Furniture:
I will need a table, chairs, full play kitchen set, play

register and chairs.

Materials:
Play money, play food, menus, notepad, pencil, and

cookware
Grouping:
Students will be put into groups of 4 or 5. Each group will

have a range of skill levels to challenge and work together.

These groups will change daily based on what the need is.

Some days, the groups will not have a wide skill level range

due to needing to work with small groups.

Time:
During math time, students will have access to this center.

Throughout the unit, the menu will change with prices to

make exchanging money more challenging.

The center will be set up at the beginning of the school year
without a register. Once we beginning the money unit, the

register will be added.

Frequency of Use:
Students will be able to use this center at any point during

their free time. We will also do centers in math at least once

a week.
Routines and Producers:
Before playing at the station, students will decide between
themselves who will take each position. If they can not
decide, each student will pull a position from a jar.
Students will go to the register, order, and pay for their
food. Then, they will get change for their money, food and
go sit and 'eat' at the table.
One student will be assigned to 'open' and 'close' the
register every day. They will count all the money in the
register to ensure we have not lost any money.
Student Needs:
When the center is first set up, there will be pictures of each
bill and coin.
There will also be a notepad to figure out how much change
it needed.
Expectations for Behavior:
When using the play kitchen, we must respect the materials

including the money.

After receiving your food/money, you must place all money

in the bucket on the floor.

Whoever is taking orders and exchanging money is in

charge of putting all the play money back into the register.
