Clothes and Appearance.: Objectives
Objectives:
- watch a video and speak about clothes and decorations;
- play the role “In the shop”;
- comment the proverbs about clothes;
- read and do the tasks to the text;
- describe the people’s clothes and appearance;
- solve the crossword about clothes.
Procedure
I. Introduction.
T: Good morning, children! I am glad to meet you! How are you today?
The topic of our lesson is “Clothes and Appearance”. We shall describe the people’s
clothes and appearance, comment the proverbs, watch video and play the role “In the
shop”, read the text and do some tasks on it and solve a crossword.
Don’t forget our rules at the lesson:
- speak English,
- don’t make noise,
- listen to the teacher and friends attentively,
- work in groups.

II. Warming Up.
T: So, let’s review all the vocabulary to the topic “Clothes”
( Pupils name the words using pictures)
T: Now I’d like you to remember the clothes-chant.
(Pupils recite the poem)

III. Group Work
T: Now unite into three groups. I’ll give you a list of words. Your task is to make up a
funny story using these words.
Card I: shoes, trainers, bracelet, scarf, dress.
Card II: jacket, trousers, boots, dress, skirt.
Card III: coat, fur hat, sweater, tights, skirt.
IV. Speaking.
T: Well done, children. We have learnt a lot of proverbs. Now I want you to remember
them. I’ll give you some cards with the beginning of the proverbs. You should look
around and find the second part of the proverbs.
(Children complete the proverbs.)
T: Read and comment the proverbs.
Possible answers:
Fine dress helps to impress. - Greet a person according to his clothes; take
leaving according to what he knows.
Appearance is deceptive. – Sometimes people who are considered to be
beautiful can be rude and have bad manners.
Good clothes open doors. - Style is the best way to express yourself without
having to speak.
Clothes make the man. – It’s very important to wear right clothes for different
situations and very important find your own style and wear something that suit
you and helps to express yourself.
That’s another pair of shoes. – It doesn’t concern footwear. It means another
matter of facts, another topic.
Tastes differ. – A thing liked by one man cannot be loved by another one.
Different people prefer different things.
V. Pair Work.
T: Now I’ll give you some pictures of different people. I want you to describe them.
Work in pairs.
(Children describe the pictures. Possible answers HO1)

VII. Crossword.
T: It’s time for a word puzzle. Do it and you’ll read an interesting word. Work in pairs.
But the crossword is unusual. Each of you has a card with some words and gaps. You
should explain the meaning of your words in English. The same your partner does. Do
not look at your partner’s card.

VIII. Listening.
T: What word can you read? Do you like shopping? Let’s watch a video about
shopping and be ready to give a heading to it.
T: Watch the video for the second time and complete the sentences (HO2).
IX. Dialogues.
T: Do you like to go shopping to the shop or to the market? Now I’d like you to
dramatize some dialogues. Imagine that you are in the shop, buying things.
(Possible answers HO3)
XII. Summarizing.
T: My dear friends! The things we do, clothes we wear, food we eat, the traditions we
keep, as well as hobbies and subcultures make us who we are: unique and special
people. But the main conclusion of our lesson should be expressed in the following
saying “Handsome is as handsome does”.
(Comment pupils’ work at the lesson.)
XIII. Homework.
T: During the lesson we have done a lot, discuss many questions concerning clothes.
But we haven’t touched on the topic “School Uniform”. So I’d like you to design a
uniform for our school. You may use pictures as well.

In the picture you can see a boy. He is a teenager. I think he is very energetic and intelligent. His hair is
blond and short. His kind eyes charming smile make him friendly. He is wearing a checked shirt with blue
stripes and brown trousers. He has a book and a schoolbag in his hands.
In the picture you see the man of about 25 years old. He is tall. He looks muscular. He has got an oval
face. His straight hair is dark. He is wearing a snow white shirt with long sleeves and a classical black suit.
His style is considered to be classical. He has a wonderful leather belt.
In the picture we can see a very beautiful woman of about 20-25. She is tall. She is very beautiful. Her
hair is black and shoulder length. Her small nose and delicate lips make her look younger of her age. She
is very smart in her grey dress with a cloth belt. She is also wearing brown shoes with high heels. There
is a nice necklace on her neck. She has a little black bag in her hand.

face framed with stubble. His brown eyes looks kind. His straight hair is dark. He is wearing a snow white
shirt with long sleeves and a black classical suit. His boots are black. His style is considered to be
classical. The man is very respective.
