Introductory Message
For the Facilitator:
Welcome to the T.L.E. CSS Grade 8 Self-Learning Module on Plan and
Prepare for Task to be Undertaken and Input Data into Computer!

This Self-Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed and

reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its
Officer-in-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A.
Agustin, in partnership with the City Government of Pasig through its mayor,
Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. The writers utilized the standards set by the K
to 12 Curriculum using the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) in
developing this instructional resource.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and

independent learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims
to help learners acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs, namely:
Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character while
taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the
body of the module:

Notes to the Teacher

This contains helpful tips or strategies
that will help you in guiding the learners.

As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them
to manage their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to encourage and assist
the learners as they do the tasks included in the module.
For the Learner:
Welcome to the T.L.E CSS Grade 8 Self-Learning Module on Plan and

AND INPUT DATA INTO COMPUTER

OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY (OHS)

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) is a management and planned

system focused on hazard prevention and risk monitoring at work. It is important
to provide efficient management of computers and technology to identify hazards
and mitigate risk in the workplace. Every workplace needs to avoid accidents and
to remove or mitigate hazards to operate comfortably and safely. The "ThinkSafe"
measures are key to recognizing basic guidelines for safe work in your workplace.
Here are the three steps to control health and safety at your place of work known
as ThinkSafe:
1. Spot the Hazard
Every workplace has a potential hazard that needs to be identified. Hazards
are potentially harmful or can cause physical and health effects on a person or to
the people. It can bring chaos in working conditions and it may be hard to identify.

The following are different forms of hazards:

Slip and Trips Working from Electricity Fire

floor can cause Ex. Avoiding computer cable can trigger fire due
accidents like damaged the can electrocute a to overloading.

2. Assess the Risk
m
Risk assessments are a strategic
e
mechanism intended to safeguard staff.
To do a hazard assessment, every work
area
o or organization must have research; whether
that area is a computer laboratory or field
f
environment.

3. Make the changes. t

h
After assessing and documenting the possible hazard inside the workplace,
major changes will occur based one the safety and health requirement of every
employee. Some workplaces must be changed according to staff’s working demands
(e.g. ventilation, more space, less prone to disease and sickness).

UNDERSTANDING COMPONENT OF A COMPUTER

To understand how a computer works, we must know the different

components that complete a computer system. Hardware, software, and peopleware
play an important role that makes the system works without its system, and
processing will not work. Here are the parts of the hardware and software of a
computer system.

I. HARDWARE – It refers to the physical components that make up a device or

electronic machine, and everything else that is physically visible. Here are the
common hardware tools used in the computer system.

Hardware Components

System Unit - Known as chassis, a box-like case that

contains the computer's electronic components such as
motherboard, power supply, connector, various drives,
and fan.
Motherboard - The motherboard (MoBo, Mainboard) is
consists of numerous components. It is also the
computer's main backbone of communication, in which
all components and external peripherals connect to run
the system.
CPU - Known as the central processing unit, which is
referred to as the computer's brain. It manages all
instructions and programs running on the computer,
from hardware to software.
Power Supply Unit - It is an integral part of the
computer that regulates the voltage to an adequate
amount and converts the current from AC to DC
required by the computer and it will allow the computer
to run smoothly without overheating.
Hard Disk Drives - A non-volatile device for computer
storage consists of high speed rotating magnetic disks.
Referred to as secondary devices that permanently store
data, even if the computer is turned off.

Other Hardware Component includes:

Optical Drives Expansion Bus Primary Storage

INPUT DEVICES – are hardware devices that provide interaction and control
data to the computer. It requires the input of raw data for processing into the
computer.

Below are the common types of Input Devices:

Keyboard - These are hardware devices that provide
interaction and control data to the computer. It requires
the input of raw data for processing into the computer.

Mouse – This controls a cursor in a GUI (graphical user

interface). By clicking into the mouse, it can input data by
moving, and selecting text, icons, files and folders on your
computer.

Touch Screen – a display input device that requires a pen,

or human touch to input data directly through the screen.

Digitizer Tablet – a large smooth board with a tracking

device that is used to input drawings into the computer
with the help of software application.

Other input devices include:

Barcode Scanner Light Pen Scanner

OUTPUT DEVICES – These are hardware computer equipment that generates

data from the device and converts it to human-readable data such as text,
audio, visual format, and hard copies.

Monitor – It refers to as a Visual Display Unit (VDU). It creates display and

shows real-time video, picture, and content from tiny dots called pixels. This
works when attached to the computer video card.

Below are the different types of Monitors:

Liquid-Crystal Display Cathode-Ray Tube LED Monitor Plasma Monitor

(LCD Monitor) (CRT Monitor)
Printer - This is another household or workplace output device. Pictures, text,
and information can be sent directly from your computer and forwards the data
to the printer, which will then physically print the images and text on the page.

Below are the different types of printer:

Inkjet Printer Laser Printer Dot Matrix Printer

Speaker - Speakers are the most common and portable

sound-generating output system used with computers.
They receive signals from the sound card of the computer
and generate audio in the form of Analog sound waves that
are audible to the human hearing.

Projector - It is an optical device that receives a video signal

and projecting the image on a surface. Computers, VCRs,
DVD players, CD players, and storage devices can be
connected to this device. The projection screen is in most
cases wide, white, and slightly colored.

II. SOFTWARE – It is a set of instructions that allow the user to communicate with
a device, its hardware, or perform tasks. Most computers would be useless
without the software.

TYPES OF SOFTWARE

A. System Software
1. Operating System – It supports the execution of application programs and
enables it to communicate and operate with computer hardware. Example:
Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, and Windows

B. Application Software
1. Word processing software – It allows you to create documents, reports, letters,
and resumes. Example: Microsoft Word

2. Spreadsheet software – It is made of columns and rows that sort, arrange, and
calculate numerical data. Example: Microsoft Excel

3. Graphic software – This program allows you to edit, create, or manipulate

images. Example: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Corel Draw, AutoCAD
4. Communication Software – It allows the exchange of communication between
two computing devices thru video or voice calls. Example: Skype, Messenger,
Zoom, Google Meet

5. E-mail Software – This software allows exchanging information like text, files,
or other attachments over telecommunication. Example: Microsoft Outlook

6. Internet Browser – A software program used to search for information and

explore the content of the World Wide Web. Example: Firefox, Google Chrome,
Internet Explorer

7. Presentation Software – This creates slideshows or making a video

presentation. Example: PowerPoint, Adobe After Effects

Other type of Application Software includes:

• Antivirus
• Game Software
• Movie Player
• Audio/Music Program
• Database Management Software
• Programming Language Software
