Tell us what were you both doing before you started Violette Field Threads (VFT) and where did the idea for the brand come from? Jessica and | were best friends before starting VFT. We both have been sewing for most of our lives, and have always had a passion for design. We had our foot in the boutique side of the sewing world, lolette Fie THREADS We catch up with the lovely Ericka Wright and Jessica Herning about their passion for design We're interested to know where the name Violette Field Threads came from — is it sentimental? We had a mental image of the little girl that would be wearing our designs. We are both southerners and imagined a little girl (Violette) with a bow in her hair twirling in 2 beautiful Tennessee field wearing vintage-inspired designs! and were hosting trunk shows and selling in shops locally. However, it did not take too much time to realise that our hearts were in the design and not production side of sewing. We decided to tearn up and create a brand that would allow us to pursue our passion of sewing and design, plus we're best friends that get to work together! What inspires your designs, and whom do they appeal to? ‘Our inspiration comes from our daughters Scarlett (Jessica's) and Cairo (Ericka's). However, we find other sources of inspiration in our travels as well. We love exploring new places whether tropical or European destinations, and taking in all the culture and fashion they have to offer. We certainly have a signature aesthetic, which is vintage designs but with moder twists. So we 10 | so tepaternpagescom appeal to the vintage-loving crowd and traditional mommas! However, as we've grown and added other designers, they have brought their unique style with them too. We love that because we can now offer modern and retro looks to give us more mass sewing appeal How are your patterns sized? We offer a wide size range at VFT. We have baby patteins sizes 0-3, 3-6, 6-12, 12-18 and 18-24 months. Our children’s patterns are sized 27-10 years, and tween patterns sized 10Tween-16. Women’s misses’ patterns are sized 00-20 and we even make patterns for 18in dolls! What are your most popular sewing patterns and do you have a favourite you've designed? The pattern that probably put us on the map was the Emmaline dress. Emmaline came out in 2012 back when the chevron was all the rage. The maxi dress photo just ‘went viral on Pinterest and was big catalyst for our patter brand! We both have our personal favourites as well, Isobel, Cairo and Luna ‘topping that list! That is an interesting question, When we first started and for many years, we absolutely hands down preferred sewing for children, That is because our girls were both young, and there's nothing quite like seeing your design on your daughter! However as the girls have grown and reaching tween sizes, we have shifted a little! Within the past year or two, we've been creating more and more women's patterns and it has really been fun! There is so much pride to be had when you leatn to sew for your own body type. too! It can take a measure of fearlessness to take a photo and share it with us, but we love seeing them and hearing everyone's stories of overcoming their fears of sewing for themselves. Hahaha ~ what's free time? Just teasing, we are both home: schooling mamas of our kiddos at the moment. We also love to travel, garden and spending time with our husbands and loved ones chatting, and enjoying a nice glass of wine! It's also very rewarding to watch other women sewing garments for themselves for the first time and Violette Field Threads seeing thelr confidence grow — eo not only their sewing confidence but also their personal confidence Sew the look Sew a classic swimsuit or bikini, that will never go out of style!
