THE ILLEGAL USE OF MARIJUANA ON MEDICAL PURPOSES IN

THE PHILIPPINES.
Title

“I am ignorant of that kind of research, I must admit. I do not read it and I do not intend to

legalize it. I don’t want to,” the Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte said on March 12,

2022 about the openness to the idea of using marijuana for medical purposes in the Philippines.

Even though this plant has a lot of advantage use in medical purposes the Philippine president

doesn’t allow it to be use, for the reason of, this move is contradictory on his platform which is

“war on drug”. But, a lot of country around this world like Canada, Uruguay and the US states of

Alaska, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, Oregon, Vermont and

Washington have already legalised the use of marijuana for recreational purposes, many

countries have also changed their policies with regards to medical cannabis.

Marijuana is one of the most abused drugs in the world.  Marijuana comes from the Indian hemp

plant, and the part that contains the “drug” is found primarily in the flowers commonly called the

“buds” and much less in the seeds, leaves, and stems of the plant. There is some research that

indicates marijuana may help decrease nausea, stimulate appetite, and decrease pain. It can also

changes mindset and the perception of everything perceived by the brain that can cause illness

and addiction that is why Philippines aren’t allowing marijuana to be use in medical purposes.

Some people think that since it is legal in some places, it must be safe. But your body doesn’t

know a legal drug from an illegal drug. It only knows the effect the drug creates once you have

taken it. You can smoke it, vape it, drink it, or eat it. Most folks use marijuana for pleasure and

recreation. This drug can affect more than your physical health. Some studies Australia (2008)

says using a heavy of marijuana can affect your brain abnormality. Marijuana can also change

the structure of the sperm; marijuana’s deforming them. It can also affect the menstrual cycle of

any women who’s using it. Some association told and emphasize that marijuana should not be

endorsing in the medical field, we still have a lot of safer leading medical organization options

exist.

My paper has focused on presenting arguments for against on legalizing marijuana in the

Philippines. I admit that marijuana have a lot of advantages and use on medical purposes but we

can’t risk a lot of life by the harms and legalization in its experiments. Therefore, I agreed on the

decision of the president of the Philippines recommended that marijuana should not be legalized

in the nation.
