NOTICE

This is to inform the students of LLB and BALLB program of School of Law, University of Kashmir
that the Law Society, School of Law, University of Kashmir is organizing an intra - department debate
competition to constitute the “School of Law Debating Society” for the academic year 2023 on 10th
November, 2022. It is important to note that only the students selected for the above-mentioned
society will be eligible to represent the department in the various debates and related competitions
organized by various institutions (local, national and international) in the year 2023. The students
interested in participating in the same are required to register using the following link:
https://forms.gle/xTUGS1nAJRYjzGLt5 by or before 7th November, 2022 (11:59 p.m.).

Note 1: Participation certificate will be provided to all participants.


Note 2: The rules of the debate competition are attached as Annexure 1.

Annexure - 1
Rules for the Debate Competition

1. The School of Law Debating Society for the year 2023 will be constituted to create a pool of
debaters from School of Law, University of Kashmir who will represent the department in all
debating and related competitions conducted by various institutions in the year 2023. It must be
noted that students who are not part of the debating society will not be allowed to represent
the department in debating and similar competitions.

2. The Debating Society shall consist of ten members who will be selected on the basis of an intra –
department debate competition.

3. The competition will be held in the traditional ‘for and against the motion’ style.

4. The competition will be conducted in two rounds in accordance with the below-mentioned details.

5. The participants will have to prepare arguments for both sides and the allotment of side (for or
against) will be decided on the basis of chit system on the day of the competition itself.

6. A speech may be followed by question/s from the judge/s.

7. The participants cannot use paper or any other written material during his/her speech.

8. The language of the competition will be English.

9. The participants will be judged on following parameters:

a. Content.
b. Structure/Organization of the Speech
c. Time Management.
d. Ability to Answer Questions.
10. There will be two rounds which will be conducted as per the following method:

Preliminary All students who register 3-5 minutes Domestic Violence Law in India
for the competition. should be Made Gender Neutral

Final Top fifteen students from 5-7 minutes Chemical Castration Should be
the preliminary round. Introduced as a Punishment for
Sexual Offences.
