Summer 2011
Saudaes de Guildford College
Welcome to the first edition of the Guildford College Group (GCG) Brazil newsletter which we will be publishing at regular intervals to keep our Brazilian partners up to date with developments including our visits to the country and new opportunities for your students. During April, our Head of International Sales, Arshad Khan visited some of our Brazilian partners in the cities of Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Osorio, Canela and Gramado. He gave student presentations and secured agreements to establish new links for Brazilian students to study at Guildford.

SENAC
SENAC and GCG have now been working together for just over a year and their partnership is creating rich programmes for their students to benefit from international aspects of Hospitality and Travel and Tourism.

Yazigi Travels
Arshad was invited by Yazigi Travels to visit some of their schools and make a presentation about the Colleges Summer and Winter School programmes. It was a great opportunity to meet some of the students and talk about the Guildford experience. In all we presented to approximately 400 students at Yazigi Schools including Osorio, Gramado, Canela, Chacara Flora, Perdizes, Aeroporto and Jabaquara.
During Arshads recent meeting with SENACs Alessandra Verni Capparos and Marcia Harumi Miyazaki we have now started work on developing short programmes for SENAC students to visit Guildford College on Professional Development Programmes which will give their degrees a programme and truly globalised flavour. Our special thanks must go to Rodrigo Gaspar of the British Council who has supported us tirelessly as an intermediary and translator. SENAC are also very interested in developing specialist Tutor led online English for Hospitality programmes for which Guildford College will be providing expertise and resources to start the first programmes for late 2011. Rodrigo commented We at the British Council are very excited by this partnership and offer our full support and blessing towards its success.

Castelli Escola Superior de Hotelaria

As a result there will be Yazigi students attending Summer School this year and we are anticipating good participation at our Winter School in Jan/Feb 2012, where students will be visiting England at a beautiful time of the year to enjoy activities in the snow and ice skating amongst others. During the visit to Yazigi Osorio, Canela and Gramado, it was agreed with the owners to run a quiz competition that will give Yazigi students the chance to win 2 weeks free tuition at the Guildford College Summer/Winter School. The winner will have a video diary created of his/her trip and this will be distributed on the Yazigi website. The winner of the competition will receive 2 free weeks of free tuition plus an award of 100 of vouchers. The runner up will receive a 1 week of free tuition at the Winter School. Guildford College is very excited to be associated with Yazigi schools and is looking forward to welcoming the first group of students this year. We will be working very closely with Yazigi to make the English school at Guildford a reality for Yazigi students with specialist programmes to be offered for 2012 which we hope will include both Winter and Summer Football and Dance + Drama schools as well as Summer Golf, Wimbledon, Disney and Olympic schools.
During a visit to the southern state of Rio Grande Do Sul we were introduced to Castelli Escola Superior de Hotelaria in Canela and are now proud to announce that we have established the foundations of a partnership. The two institutes will be developing initiatives that will benefit our students in both Brazil and the UK and allow for a truly international hospitality educational experience. Castelli is a highly rated school in the southern state providing high quality education and vocational training and we are honoured to be associated with an institute of such repute. We will be developing other variations of these types of programmes including more tutor led online English classes at Castelli. There will be further updates in the next newsletter.

Gama Filho
Guildford College has also been working with Gama Filho in Rio de Janeiro for more than a year now on the development of special short courses for students to visit Guildford. During the current visit Arshad met with Ricardo Andrade, Auditor and Director at Gama Filho and Ana Beatrice Faulhaber, Director of CP4. We have agreed to develop two opportunities in the subject areas of Business and Finance. The first will be a short four week course to develop skills in English for Business and Accounting which will be coupled with intensive British accounting training and visits to various institutes of interest. The second will involve the development of a six month Professional Development Programme which will earn credits towards the final degree programme at Gama Filho. Both courses have an anticipated start date of 2012. CP4 have been working with Guildford College for the last year as well and will be developing our online tutor led English programme this coming year with classes held at their offices and at Gama Filho.

Summer and Winter School

As the days get longer, our attention is now turning towards the Summer School in the months of July and August. This year we have applications already from over 20 different countries and we are hoping for participation from Brazilian students to add colour and vibrancy to the classes during the Great British Summer. We will be running excursions to the top tourist destinations in the UK and our activities include Boating, Ice Skating and Crazy Golf.
