The project proposes designing and implementing a battery-operated tabletop disk and belt sanding machine with electronic speed control for hobby and industrial use. A team of 3-4 students will use a microcontroller platform to control motors, display settings, and manage batteries to power a small sanding machine over 3 months with a budget of less than 3000TL. The goal is to design hardware and software for the controller to control speed and grit size for various sanding jobs.

Co-advisor Title of the Project Design and Implementation of a Battery Operated Tabletop Disk and Belt Sanding Machine Number of Teams (One or 2 more) Team Size 3 or 4 students Project Details Tabletop disk and belt sanding machines are used many mini sized hobby and industrial mechanical and electronic parts. When heavily involved in mechatronics, robotics and related disciplines, it is a definite item for a lab/workshop for quality jobs needs to be done. Generally a disk and belt sanding machine has an electronic speed control unit so that different parts can be sanded with different speed and grit sizes. This machine should have a controller, a display, necessary knobs and buttons, motor drivers, battery management features, and a charger (built-in or external). Tools Raspberry/STM32/Arduino platforms with compatible sensors, Proper sized motor with enough power, Personal computer, CAD tools, 3D printer, C/C++/C#/ Python programming Success Criteria Hardware/software design and implementation of the controller. (mechanical parts are supplied by Co-Advisor and/or Advisor) (Candidates are encouraged to submit their project to TUBITAK 2209B Programs) Cost Less than 3000TL Duration 3 months+
