Abattoirs:
butcher house/ butcheries/ slaughter house/ meat
works facility
A place/ enclosure where meat animals are killed for
human consumption as food products is technically
called ‘Abattoirs’.
Knackeries:
Slaughter house of animals which process not meant
for human consumption are called knackeries or knack
yards.
Such process may be meant to produce meat for
animals in captivity.
EXISTING CONDITION
There are about 4700 authorized
slaughterhouses in India. These are
under the control of local municipal
administration. Besides, there are
some private slaughterhouses.
