Course Title: CPE 109 Building and Enhancing New Literacies across
Curriculum
Overview:
This module discusses the different definitions of literacy and explains what being literate
means in the context in the 21st Century, with the goal of raising awareness in readers who
might be unaware of the evolving perspectives of literacy and the clear definition of
conventional literacy.
Intended Learning Outcome
At the end of this unit, the student are expected to reflect on (a) how literate they are based on
the traditional or conventional concepts of literacy (b) how they could improve or enrich their current
level of literacy (c)how to prepare an evaluation instrument intended for 21 st century teaching-learning
tool
Module Objectives:
After successful Completion of this unit, you should be able to:

This unit discusses the global and multicultural literacies and discover effective ways on how to
integrate global multiculturalism in the lesson using appropriate delivery strategies ,instructional materials
and assessment tools.
Intended Learning Outcome
At the end of this unit, the student are expected generate ways of promoting multicultural
awareness and inclusivity in the classroom and draw relevant life lessons and significant values from
personal experience in demonstrating multicultural literacy.
Module Objectives:
After successful Completion of this unit, you should be able to:
1.Explain the dimensions of multiculturalism.
2. Elucidate on the assessment strategy for global competence and global understanding
3. Analyze research abstract on global and multicultural literacy and its implications on the teaching
-learning process.
4.Draft relevant policy in addressing multiculturalism in school.

Overview:
This unit discusses the relationship between Media Literacy and Cyber/Digital Literacy and how it
should be taught for the protection of students in their consumption of information.
Module Objectives:
1.Develop working understanding of Media and Cyber /Digital Literacy and how they relate to one
another.
2. Appreciate the importance of developing Media and Cyber/Digital Literacy both in ourselves and
one another in the information age.
3. Realize that practical steps must be taken to develop these literacies eary in children and cannot
wait “until they are older.”
