I. Read the passage and do the tasks that follow.
Van Mieu (The Temple of Literature) was built in 1070 under King Ly Thanh Tong's dynasty, after the capital
of Viet Nam had been located in the land of the Rising Dragon. Van Mieu used to be a Confucian school
reserved for the sons of the royalty, later it was opened to the commoners as well. This marked an important
stage in the establishment of a national educational system. Right after the Van Mieu had been built, the official
examinations involving the Three philosophies (Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism) continued to be held
until the end of Ly's dynasty and the beginning of Tran's dynasty.
