Save Our Ocean

According to researchers, plastic bags have been the number one trash that
pollutes our land and ocean. Plastic bags are used daily by 7 billion people on this
earth. Since it is very light weighted, plastic bags are easily picked up by winds and
travels all across the land and ends up on the ocean.

The following graph is a research on how much plastics are used and thrown
in the ocean and are not able to be recycled. This is a graph from a research on how
much plastic waste are used globally in 2013. It can only increase by the years to
come. The population on earth has produced about 275 million tonnes of plastic
wastes. 3% of this plastic wastes ends up on the surface of the ocean or in the bottom
of deep seas which also affects the sea animals.

No. Countries Amount of plastics How many percent is How many animals
(in tons) impacting the sea died of the impact
1. China 8.9 57% 23,000
2. Indonesia 3.1 78% 20,000
3. Philipines 2.9 89% 12,000
4. Vietnam 2.8 56% 14,000
5. Sri Lanka 2.6 24% 21,000
6. Thailand 2 60% 10,000
7. Egypt 1.9 43% 9,000
8. Malaysia 1.9 29% 8,500
9. Nigeria 1.8 67% 3,000

There are some ways we can start to do to lessen plastic waste. Here are some
examples:
1. The usage of plastic bags are not a necessity to live, we can start exchanging
plastic bags with reusable bags, plastic cups and jars with glass jars. Not only

do these helps our ocean but it is also cheaper and healthier. For an example,
we can use reusable water bottles rather than disposable bottles. With this we
can also inspire our friends and colleagues to start caring for their ocean and
environment that is damaged and polluted by the plastics that they are using.

2. The sea animals are endagered because of the plastic waste and pollution
in the ocean. One of the animals that is endagered is sea turtles. They are
dying because they are eating plastic bags and plastic straws. They
consumed these because these plastics looks like jellyfish and seaweed.

Plastic has been found in more than 60% of all seabirds and in 100% of sea
turtles species, that mistake plastic for food.Every year, 8 million metric tons of
plastics enter our ocean on top of the estimated 150 million metric tons that currently
circulate our marine environments.

Plastic has been found in more than 60% of all seabirds and in 100% of sea
turtles species, that mistake plastic for food. And when animals ingest plastic, it can
cause life-threatening problems, including reduced fitness, nutrient uptake and
feeding efficiency—all vital for survival.

Let us start now! We can help others understand the importance of keeping
and caring for God’s creation. We can start with ourselves then we can start helping
our own family. By then we will have everyone we can reach to care about their
ocean and would want them to keep the clean and crystal clear water.
