This essay discusses the usage of Shopee apps. Shopee is one of the online shopping
apps. Shopee is a Singaporean e-commerce platform headquartered under the Sea Group
(previously known as Garena). Shopee first launched in Singapore in year 2015, and since
expanded its reach to Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines and
Brazil. It serves users in Southeast Asia and Taiwan to buy and sell products online. One of the
reasons we choose Shopee is because the layout of Shopee is clear to see and easy to use.
Besides, we choose Shopee because Shopee put the products into their own categories well. This
makes the users easier and faster to find the products they want. There are two operating systems
that can support Shopee, one of it is Android. Android is a mobile operating system based on an
adjusted version of the Linux kernel and other open source software. It was designed primarily
for touchscreen mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. Moreover, Android is initially
developed by Android Inc., which Google bought in 2005. Android was exposed in 2007, with
the first commercial Android device launched in September 2008. Android 10 is the current
stable version of Android that released on 3rd September 2019. In addition, Android is now the
operating system inside 2.5 billion active devices. For Android users, Shopee can be downloaded
from proprietary application stores like Google Play Store and Samsung Galaxy Store. Another
operating system that can support Shopee is iOS. iOS, formerly called as iPhone OS, is a mobile
operating system created and developed by Apple Inc. merely for its hardware. iOS was
originally exposed in 2007 for the iPhone. Major versions of iOS are released annually. On all
recent iOS devices, iOS regularly checks on the availability of an update. If one is available, will
point the user to allow its automatic installation. iOS 13 is the current version of iOS which
released to the public on 19 September 2019. Furthermore, iOS is the second most popular
mobile operating system globally after Android. For iOS users, Shopee can be downloaded from
the application store called App Store.

Furthermore, Shopee have a secure payment service called Shopee Guarantee which is
buyers will get 100% refund if the products that they purchased are not received in the
previously agreed upon condition. Besides, personal data means an individual who can be
identified from that data. Shopee will require seller or buyer to provide their personal data when
they register or create an account such as name, gender, date of birth, age, telephone number,
email address, shipping address, bank account details, and photo identification for verification
purpose. Seller or buyer will also select a user name and password in order to activate their
account. Their user name and password will be used so they can securely access and maintain
their account. Next, users’ personal data can only accessible by a limited number (of employees
who have special access rights to such systems. They are required to keep the personal data
confidential and Shopee will preserve their personal data with Privacy Laws. Shopee will also
collect users’ personal data when they carry out transactions through Shopee services, provide
feedback or complaints and interact with Shopee customer service such as via telephone calls,
face-to-face meetings, letters, fax, emails and social media platforms. Moreover, phone number
is an important tool for users to be verified on Shopee especially when dealing with user
account's security or payment related issues. Shopee will send a Verification Code or one-time
password (OTP) upon login Shopee account on a new device in order to ensure user’s account is
secure. Buyers will only be able to place an order or initiate a chat with the seller after they have
successfully updated their phone number. If you already have a Shopee account, simply login
using the phone number or email address and the password you used to register.

In additional, the app’s interface is a space where interactions between human and machine
take place. Every particular in user interface design is necessary and play an important part,
particularly in the successful level of a data framework. Unlike a web-based user interface, the
one applies on mobile devices have many limitations, such as data transfer capacity restriction
and show size. Shopee provide both website and mobile application for their customer. Both
applications and mobile websites are available on handheld devices, but computers can only
access to the websites. There are several features on the homepage of Shopee. On the homepage,
there is a search bar, along with cart and chat feature in the same column. Right below of that is a
section for Shopee’s exclusive content, further scrolling will guide users to items category list,
popular search, and recommended items section in a two-columns grid format. Shopee allocate a
back button to allow their user to set aside the action users are about to do and get back to the
previous. The button is shown as a left arrow and is available on most of the pages inside the
app. Next, categories/trending are the most desirable features on homepage according to user
survey. The aim is making it equally high-lisited at the first glance of Shopee website. Filter
panel is made horizontal to reduce scrolling of users while editing filters and make the list of
items look less disarrange. Horizontal division is used for information tabs to allow users to
navigate detailed message without scrolling down or losing the sight of the item galleries.
Furthermore, there is a website for Shopee app. The differences between website and app of
shopee is that website does not have a horizontal division, Due to the computer’s nature of
having bigger screen than mobile phone, it is likely to present an excessive amount of
information in one screen.

Functionalities of shopee will divide as basic functionality and advance functionality. The
core basic functionality of an online shopping app is the shopping cart and product catalogue.
The user browses the products grouped by category and adds the desired product to the shopping
cart in the app. Next comes is transaction handling, the simplest form of which is to send an
order to the seller via email, but most commonly, it handles the entire purchase process through a
separate order status. Furthermore, one of the advanced functionalities is the catalogue are made
easier with the product comparison tool, which allows user to select a few different products and
then view them and their most important features on one screen, usually by looking for similar
tables in the comparison table. Another example of advanced functionality is product variants. If
a product has different versions, such as colour or size, it is not necessary to display each feature
combination as a separate item in the product list, but it should be possible to select the product
variant in the product card. Moreover, shipping options allow users to choose from different
shipping options and adding the shipping address easily. This function let the users be aware of
the available shipping options, how much each of them costs in total and the estimated delivery
time for each of the option.

Lastly, the navigation of the Shopee application is excellent. The beginner of using
Shopee needs to register an account. There will teach consumer how to register an account on the
product page. After that, consumer can start using the app to purchase their favoured product
step by step. It has a wide range of products, from consumer electronics to household and
lifestyle products, health and beauty, babies and toys, fashion and fitness equipment. First,
consumer can browse through the various categories or use the search bar of Shopee to find their
favourite products. There has a scan button on the page of Shopee to easily search items by
scanning or taking photos for consumers can find their favourite product easily. When consumer
find an item in the store, they can add the item to the shopping cart. Then, consumer can
continue to shopping in the Shopee. The shopping cart view expands and displays up to 5
products, their unit prices, and options for "View Full Shopping Cart" or "Checkout". If consumer
wants to change the quantity of an item in the shopping cart, they can enter the new quantity and
click the update button. In addition, Shopee also has an in-app chat function that allows buyers to
chat with sellers, as well as a rewards section that allows users to redeem Shopee Coins and
exchange them for vouchers. Therefore, consumer can click the “Chat Now” on the product page
to discuss with the seller to get more information of the product or get some discount. Lastly,
consumer should select the product that they want to purchase and click “Check out”. Before that,
they can apply their Free Shipping voucher or other promotion voucher. Make sure the purchase
and delivery address is complete and correct to avoid lost parcel. They can choose shipping
option, and leave a message to the seller if have any specific details to include.Lastly, select the
preferred payment method and tap on "Place Order" to proceed with payment. The ‘History’ and
‘Liked’ of Shopee allow consumer to check what they have been interested in. The personal data
that Shopee may collect includes but is not limited to any other information about the user when
signs up to use services or website, and when the user uses the Services or website, as well as
information related to how the User uses our Services or website. Moreover, the consumer who
is willing to become a seller can review to Prohibited and Restricted Items Policy to ensure that
the product can be listed for sale under Shopee’s Terms and Condition.

In a nutshell, Shopee is one of the leading mobile e-commerce platforms that buyers and
sellers can communicate and make transactions directly. The navigation experience of Shopee
and the functionality of Shopee had shown its usefulness to help buyers be more effective.
Shopee considered the most secure payment mode to allow buyers feel confident when
purchasing online. Hence, Shopee will become the No.1 cross-border e-commerce platform in
Southeast Asia and Taiwan because of the best usage.
