1) The Angel Gabriel (traditional)

The angel Gabriel from heaven came,

His wings as drifted snow, his eyes as flame.
"All hail," said he, "O lowly maiden Mary,
Most highly favoured lady." Gloria!

"For known a blessed mother thou shall be,

All generations laud and honour thee.
Thy Son shall be Emmanuel, by seers foretold,
"Most highly favoured lady." Gloria!

Then gentle Mary meekly bowed her head.

"To me be as it pleases God," she said.
"My soul shall laud and magnify God's holy name."
Most highly favoured lady. Gloria!

Of her, Emmanuel, the Christ, was born

In Bethlehem, all on a Christmas morn.
And Christian folk throughout the world will ever say:
"Most highly favoured lady." Gloria!
2) Suddenly It’s Christmas (Lin Marsh)
Children singing Christmas carols
All the candles burn so bright
Stars are twinkling, faces glowing
On this winter night

Holly hanging in the doorway

Sugar, mice and mistletoe
Lights are shining in the window
Everywhere I go

Suddenly it’s Christmas

Time for peace and joy
Giving and receiving love
For every girl and boy
Suddenly it’s Christmas
All the work is done
Families together
And love for everyone

There’s a tree in every window

Cards are hanging everywhere
Christmas parties, hats and crackers
Treats for us to share

Going shopping all together

Choosing gifts for young and old
Bands are playing, bells are ringing
In the winter cold

Suddenly it’s Christmas

Time for peace and joy
Giving and receiving love
For every girl and boy
Suddenly it’s Christmas
All the work is done
Families together
And love for everyone. Love for everyone.
3) We’re Walking in the Air (Howard Blake)
We’re walking in the air.
We’re floating in the moonlit sky.
The people far below are sleeping as we fly!

I’m holding very tight.

I’m riding in the midnight blue.
I’m finding I can fly so high above with you!

On across the world -

The villages go by like dreams.
The rivers and the hills,
The forests and the streams!

Children gaze, open mouthed,

Taken by surprise!
Nobody down below believes their eyes!

We’re surfing in the air.

We’re swimming in the frozen sky.
We’re drifting over icy mountains floating by.

Suddenly, swooping low,

On an ocean deep,
Rousing up a mighty monster from his sleep!

We’re walking in the air

We’re dancing in the midnight sky
And everyone who sees us greets us as we fly!
4) Midnight! (Mark & Helen Johnson)

1 Midnight – there’s the strangest feeling in the air tonight,

There’s something going on but I can’t make it out,
I wonder what it’s all about.

2 Starlight – breaking through the darkness in the dead of night,

Illuminates the path that takes you out of sight,
And all the way to Bethlehem.

CHORUS
Tonight’s events were planned in heaven,
The greatest story ever penned.
Heaven and earth have come together,
And life has come to Bethlehem.

3 Angels – taking care of things that only they can do,

Are waiting in the wings to bring the joyful news,
It’s going to turn the world around.

4 Strangers – having made arrangements for a night or two,

Have found accommodation in the crowded rooms.
The house is packed in Bethlehem.

CHORUS

5 Shepherds – minding their own business looking after things,

Are startled by an unexpected happening,
As angel choirs appear to them.

6 Wise men – taking charts and telescopes and compasses,

Investigate the star that takes them travelling,
Until they come to Bethlehem.

CHORUS x 2
And life has come to Bethlehem!
5) Holiday Lights!
Holiday Lights, shining so bright.
Oh, what a sight this joyous season.
Holiday lights, shining so bright.
Oh what a sight this time of year!

1) Feel the magic in the air.

Coloured lights shine everywhere.
Feel the magic all around.
In the smiles of people in our town. (CHORUS)

2) Red and green and gold and white.

See them sparkle in the night.
Green and red and white and gold.
Such a lovely sight to behold. (CHORUS)

CHORUS + Descant
Lights Shine!
Oh, what a sight this joyous season.
Lights Shine!
Oh what a sight this time of year!
Oh what a sight this time…. Of…. Year…….!
Those holiday lights!
