About Winter School in Geospatial Science
and Technology (Level-1):
The capacity building program initiatives of the
National Geospatial Program (NGP) erstwhile Natural
Resource Data Management System (NRDMS)
Department of Science and Technology, Government
of India to develop national capacity for geospatial
science and technology development through diverse
programs in collaboration with various partner
organizations adaptation capacity of geospatial
science and technology across the country. The
objective of the program is to build knowledge and
various levels of governance in collaboration with
academia and user agencies. This 21-day winter
school in Geospatial Science and Technology (Level
1) is supported by the National Geospatial Program
(NGP) of the Department of Science and Technology,
Government of India focuses on developing
knowledge and capacity building in geospatial
technologies through the use of open source
geospatial software.
About NIT Warangal
National Institute of Technology Warangal, formerly
known as Regional Engineering College was
established in1959. Over the years it has developed
into a premier institute of higher learning and is
ranked among the top technical education institutions
in India. There are 14 Departments offering eight
undergraduate and 31 post- graduate programmes
besides doctoral programmes. About 5000 students
across the country and about 500 international
students’ study in the campus. It is a fully residential
campus sprawling over 250 acres with excellent
infrastructure.
About Warangal
Warangal is the second largest city of the state of
Telangana. It is situated at a distance of 140 km from
the state capital Hyderabad (Nearest Airport). It is
well connected by Rail (Kazipet Junction is 2 km

Road (NH 202).

Brief Profile of the Civil Engg. Department
The Department of Civil Engineering with four
divisions offers an undergraduate program in Civil
Engineering and eight postgraduate programs.
Department also has the mini center of excellence
in geospatial technologies and carrying out the
research and consultancy services in the field of
geospatial technologies. The department offers

Grading and Certification:
Grading and Certification Participants will be
assessed based on assignments completed during the
course, a mini project that they are expected to
complete, active participation during the training
program as well as attendance.
Infrastructural facilities:
Geospatial Lab:
Civil Engineering department has specialized RS and
GIS lab with capacity of 30. We also have central
computer lab facility with seating arrangements range
from 30 to 50. We also have teaching learning center
with fully equipped computation lab facility. We will
QGIS software for all the applications. ArcGIS 25 users
licenses are there to use in the lab. We also have the
skilled RSGIS lab technician to help the participants in
learning the geospatial exercises
Accommodation:
NITW has well-furnished guest house for the resource
persons and participants. Participants will be given twin
sharing based rooms. It has also had two dining rooms
