and masking tape
III. PROCEDURE

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY

A. DAILY ROUTINE

(Time: 10 minutes)

1. Greetings
- Good afternoon class! -Good afternoon, Sir! Ma’am!
- We will introduce ourselves again, my
name is Ibrahim P. Guiamal
- My name is Norhan B. Makalimpas
- And my name is Rubielyn D. Carigay

2. Prayer -.............................................. All these in

- (The teacher will ask someone to Your
lead the prayer) Mighty Name. Amen!.................

3. Keeping the Room in Order

- Class, before you sit down, check if
there is a mess of paper, plastic or
other garbage next to your chair and
pick it up first and arrange your chair
properly in 1, 2, 3, ... 10.

4. Checking of attendance -None Sir! Ma’am!

- Is anyone absent today?
- Very good! keep that class until the
end of the class this year

5. Review of the Previous Lesson -Yes Sir! Ma’am!

- Last time your teacher had discussion
about Right Triangle, and Label Right
Triangle’s Sides and Angles?…..
right class?
- Before we move on to our next lesson
let us first have a recap of the lesson.
- Now, who can give a definition of Right
Triangle based on your own
understanding?
- Who wants to volunteer? -Sir, A right triangle is a triangle with an
angle which measures 90 degrees.

-Very Good
- How will you describe a right triangle?
If I have here ∆ABC, name the
hypotenuse and the legs.
MOTIVATION

(Time: 5 minutes)

Real life application of Pythagorean

Theorem
-Student will be presented with the following
picture depicting a real scenario that
involves Pythagoras theorem:

They will then be asked to complete the

following question:
-You've just picked up a ground ball at first
base, and you see the other team's player
running towards third base. How far do you
have to throw the ball to get it from first
base to third base, and throw the runner
out?

- Before we proceed to our lesson, let us all - (the student will read the learning
first get to know our learning objectives. objectives)
Please read the following learning
objectives. (the teacher will call everyone OBJECTIVES
to read the learning objectives.) At the end of 90 minutes lesson, 80% of the
learners are able to:

1. define the Pythagorean Theorem

2. solve the missing side of a triangle using
Pythagorean Theorem.; and
3. give importance on Pythagorean theorem
in solving real-life problems.
-Now, based in questions a while ago, our
lesson for today is all about Pythagorean
Theorem.
-What is Pythagorean Theorem? Do you -Pythagorean Theorem for me is in the
have any idea? equation of 𝑎2 + 𝑏 2 = 𝑐 2

Very good. Who else?

“The Pythagorean Theorem gives an

important relationship among the sides of
aright triangle. This theorem can actually be
used to find the third side of a right triangle
when two sides are known.”

-Very Good. Now, let us try to prove the

Pythagorean theorem. In proving the
Pythagorean theorem, we will apply also
the concept you have learned in Right
Triangle and Label Right Triangle’s Sides
and Angles.

B. ACTIVITY
Geometric Proof:

(Time: 15 minutes)

- First, I will group you into 4

Instructions:
“Manipulate the 4 triangles in the square
provided to show that 𝑎2 + 𝑏 2 = 𝑐 2

the empty square in the middle has area of

2
𝑐 .
rearrange the triangles

The empty square at the top has an area of

𝑎2 . The empty square at the bottom has an
area of 𝑏 2 . The two areas cover the same
as 𝑐 2 . Therefore, 𝑐 2 must equal 𝑎2 plus 𝑏 2 .

-How can you represent this algebraically?

C. ANALYSIS

(Time: 10 minutes)

-What do you notice from the squares and

Triangles?

-Who among the class can tell the

relationship exist between the biggest
square and the smallest square and the
triangles?

- Why Pythagorean theorem is it useful? - Because if we know the lengths of the two
sides of a right triangle, we can find the
measurement of the third side. And this is
very useful when we want to find the
distance between certain objects or places.
D. ABSTRACTION

(Time: 25 minutes)

“Suppose ΔABC is a right triangle with right

angle C and c represents the length of the
hypotenuse, and a and b are the lengths of
the legs.”

Then 𝑎2 + 𝑏 2 = 𝑐 2

“The square of the length of the longest side

of a right triangle is equal to the sum of the
squares of the length of other two legs.”

Example 1:
Given ΔABC, a = 5 and b =15. Determine
the missing side of ΔABC

-what missing side are we looking for?

-side c
-what is the given in the triangle?
- and the solution is?
-Try to solve on your own paper
-Solution: Given a = 5, b = 12 and c=?

-How did you get it?

-Please can you explain to me why the - (the students will explain how he got it)
squared Mr.__ is disappeared. - (Mr.__ will explain)
- You are correct!

EXAMPLE 2
“Solve for the missing side of ΔABC given
C =17 and a = 8.”
- (just the same as 𝑎2 + 𝑏 2 = 𝑐 2 )
-since b is the side to be searched for, how
should it be written?

-what to do next?

-Ok very good

EXAMPLE 3
-Find the value of the missing side of ΔXYZ
given below

- what is the given miss….? -Given z = 22, x = 18 and y=?

- (just the same as 𝑐 2 = 𝑎2 + 𝑏 2 as z is the
hypotenuse)
- (x and y are legs of the right triangle)
- take note class (we use 4 decimal places - Yes sir.
for precision purposes).
- why is the answer made to 4 decimal -(Mr.__ will answer)
places again Mr.____?

- Now, let us deepen our knowledge on

Pythagorean Theorem in solving real-life
problem/situation.

EXAMPLE 4:
A 10 feet ladder is leaning against a vertical
wall. If the foot of the ladder is 6 feet from
the wall, how high does the ladder reach?

-Create an illustration.
E. APPLICATION

(Time: 10 minutes)

- You will be given questions and paper

where you can put your answer.
- You should help and participate. You can
divide the questions or anything what
strategy you will do.
- You only have 15 min to answer the given
problem.

- Do you understand class? -Yes sir! maam!

-Let’s start

- (Teacher distribute questions and answer -(the students will start answering)
sheet)

“Solve the following problems. Show your

complete solutions. Draw the right triangle
and label the correct sides.” Solve the
missing side for each given right triangle.

1. Given ΔABC, with ∠ C = 90°, c = 5, a = 3

2. Given ΔCDE, with ∠ E = 90°, e = 74, c = 38

3. Given ΔXYZ, with ∠ X = 90°, z = 52, y = 40

4. Given ΔRST, with ∠ T = 90°, r = 20, s = 11

- check if your answer is correct. - (After 10 minutes)

(Teacher will check his/her solution) - 4 groups done answering
IV. GENERALIZATION

(Time: 30 minutes)

- Class did you understand our lesson - Yes sir.

today?
-Do you have any questions or - None sir.
clarifications?

- If that so,

- Now class, Again, what is Pythagorean - (the students raised their hands)
theorem? - It is the relationship of the sides of a right
-Yes (Name) Triangle
- Pythagorean theorem states that the
square of the hypotenuse of a right triangle
is equal to the sum of the squares of the
legs.
