BOAT GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM

FOR FISHERMEN

ABSTRACT:
GPS, or Global Positioning Systems, are satellite-based navigation
systems developed by the U.S. Department of Defense for military purposes—but
they're familiar to most of us as the navigational system used by our phones and
cars. Whether you’re talking about the GPS on your phone, in your car, or a marine
GPS for boats, all these units receive radio signals from multiple orbiting satellites
to determine your position.

CHALLENGES:
● Determining position and maintaining direction under routine conditions depended on
knowledge of weather.
● GPS also allows you to save positions, which we commonly call “way points.” For
boaters, this can be helpful to permanently record the location of a channel, a shoal, or a
fishing hot-spot.
● GPS continually updates your position and provides speed and directional information.

IDEA PROPOSED:

 To find the best fishing spots, track fish movements, and assure regulatory compliance.

 The future involves using the tool to track the exact positioning of the fishes.
 Global Positioning System units displayed your position in latitude and longitude.

COMMERCIAL VALUES:

● Market participants will benefit from more significant usage of GPS systems, increased
attention on improving marine transportation safety, and development in the seaborne
trade.
● Commercial fishing boats increasingly employ GPS to find the best fishing spots, track
fish movements, and assure regulatory compliance.

MARKET POTENTIAL:

Boat global positioning system analyses historical and current market data to accurately
gauge its future growth potential.
BACKGROUND:
 Set up functions. There are some adjustments that can be made to GPS
receivers that can cause problems.
 Datum errors.
 The wrong datum may be set up..
 Common sense errors.
 Way points on buoys.
 The use of stock way points.
 Input errors.
 Aerial position.
 Bad satellite geometry

Due to these problems it can lead to inaccurate data or complete loss of GPS
signal. Here are various issues faced by fishermen and how we can give
solutions.that is embed into the GPS.
OBJECTIVE:
● Navigation to optimal fishing locations.
● Mapping commercial fishing fleets.
● Navigational hazard location.
● Tracking fish migration.
● Management of maritime port facilities.
● Vessel traffic control around busy seaways.
● Increases safety and security for sea vessels.
● Allows access to fast and accurate position courses.

PROPOSED WORK:
Marine or boat GPS devices are units that consist of a display that uses a global
positioning system (GPS) to show you your exact location or your exact position
on the sea.
Marine GPS units are the exact same as the units you would use in your car
except these are waterproof and made for the sea. On the boat’s GPS display you’ll
be able to see your location and follow your position as you move around the
ocean, just like driving around a car with a GPS unit.

There are various types of marine GPS devices on the market, ranging from simple
radar-oriented to voice-enabled units. Voice-enabled GPS systems are especially
popular, and seem to work better for many boaters, even though the voice is
computer-generated. The radar-oriented GPS units signal with beeps. Although
less interactive, they are still effective when you need to locate your position.

MARINE GPS UNIT:

Inside marine GPS units is GPS technology in the form of a GPS receiver or a
few GPS receivers.

To calculate your position and provide marine navigation, all marine GPS devices
need to connect to their global positioning system (GPS system) in the form of
their GPS satellites via the GPS receivers in the unit.
The GPS receiver has to be connected to a minimum of 4 satellites within the GPS
systems to provide you with an exact location. The GPS device knows the
positions of the satellites and uses this GPS data from the GPS receiver to
triangulate your exact position.

NOTE

Once it’s locked onto the multiple satellites, the

GPS unit doesn’t drop the connection, it holds
it so you can see where you are, where you
have been, and where you are going.

Other Uses for GPS on Boats:

Anchor Alarm:

Users also like GPS’ for the anchor alarm. If your boat’s anchor slips at night,
an alarm is sounded waking up the crew and captain so that they can re-anchor the
boat and not drift aimlessly through the night.

Security System:

GPS’ can also be used as a security system. If your boat gets stolen, the GPS
can ping you its position so the authorities can find it again, and even set off an
alarm if it goes out of the range you have specified, so you can apprehend the
thieves.
METHODOLOGY:

The "GPS-on boat" methodology. The rover GPS receiver calculates

directly the instantaneous elevation of the boat relative to the reference ellipsoid.
Filtering of the short-term effects (fluctuations of the sea-level shown as two
different levels) permits an accurate elevation of the SST along the boat track.

GPS fish finders are useful devices that can take the hassle out of finding
your potential catch when you’re fishing. Many different types of GPS fish finders
are available, and you can use the Internet to research various models, functions
and features to determine which type will best meet your needs.

Additional features available on fish finder GPS combos include bright

LCD screens, sonar and mapping GPS. These types of units can even find fish
that are hiding in weeds or rocks of the same color as the fish. You can also zoom
in to see any objects you are tracking on the bottom of the lake or river.Whether
you use your GPS unit for finding fish or plotting courses, you will find that they
are a valuable addition to any boat’s equipment.

CONCLUSION:

GPS survey and machine guidance applications and finding increasing

acceptance in the mining industry. Widespread adoption of this technology has
important safety benefits as a by product. In addition there are a number of
applications where GPS system may be fitted for primary safety purpose. Lack of
satellites is the major problem to be overcome, but there are a number of possible
solutions and more will be available in the future.
