1. Mode: Reflectance
2. Light Source and Angle: D65/10 degree
3. Parameters need to Measure: color value L*a*b and ΔE*ab.
4. Because the fabric is translucent, we will use one A4 paper to make sure no light will
enter the instrument to affect the test result.
5. Make sure the test direction is the same when measuring the target and fabric
because the fabric is woven.
Target Fabric Sample Fabric
Measure the color of the target fabric first. Then get its L*a*b, then measure the sample
fabric to get the color difference ΔE*ab.
Sample Name Parameter Test value
a 0.05
b -0.52
a -0.48
b -0.47
For the buyers with the target, the sample contains too much white and the total color
difference is Delta E*ab 1.43. These two colors are very different from each other.
From this spectrometer value we can understood the CMC (Color measuring committee)
which are given bellow:
CMC De: If value is 0.0-0.75 = pass; if Da [red/green]: If value (+) = shade is
value is 0.75-1.0 = warning; if the value is Redish (less green); if value (-) = shade is
1 ≥ Fail. Greenish (less red).
Metamerism: If the result is 0.50 ≤ pass/ok; if the result is above 0.50 ≥ fail
Conclusion: In the textile industry for color matching, recipe prediction, shade analysis
etc, named the In this lab experiment, come to know about the most common machine
used in Spectrophotometer. This is an important experiment for a textile engineer.
