Representation Meaning
[square brackets] A key to be pressed on a PC keyboard, for example [F11].
Keys to be pressed simultaneously are concatenated with a “+”
sign, for example [CTRL]+[ALT]+[DEL].
Keys to be pressed one after another are concatenated with
spaces, for example [ESC] [SPACE] [M].
> The greater than symbol “>” is used to concatenate a series of
GUI items in order to depict a GUI path. This is an abridged pre-
sentation of a procedure to be carried out in order to perform an
action or display a window or dialog box.
Examples:
A simple menu path: File > Save as ...
A more complex GUI path:
SURPASS TransNet window > Tools menu >
3R-Matrix Report command > 3R-Matrix Report dialog box

5.2 Connecting STP cat-5e cables

5.2.1 Connecting cat-5e cables

These steps apply to cabling the following interfaces on FPH800 front panel.
• 4 X 10/100/1000 Base-T ports
• 4 X GE ports on 4 X GE card in the pluggable slot
• 4 X GE ports on power injector card in the pluggable slot

f Port 3 and port 4 on FPH800 mainbord or power injector card supports P+E solution.
The P+E solution is not compatible with Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) defined by IEEE
802.3af and 802.3at since P+E intends to provide higher power than that provided by
the two standards. Thus, it is harmful to connect FPH800 P+E interfaces to other
devices than NSN's FlexiPacket ODU's.

1 Use the crimping tool to crimp the cat-5e cable with the RJ45 jacks (Item Code:
T555ETRJ.08, P/N: 5463110).
The GE cable is in AWG 23 shielded cat-5e category for indoor use. Both cable
sides must be crimped with two shielded RJ45 jacks. Connection must be made in
T568A straightthrough mode, according to TIA/EIA-568-A.

5.3 Connecting optical patch cords

Be sure to follow all safety precautions when replacing an SFP transceiver in the device.
To avoid electrical shocks and burns, and possible damage to the equipment, read and
follow these warnings:

f WARNING: When the device is on:

Never insert a metal object, such as a screwdriver or a finger with jewelry, into open
module slots.
Do not touch any connections inside the base unit.

This device uses lasers in its fiber optic ports. To ensure user safety, comply with the
following precaution:

f WARNING:The fiber optic lasers used in the device meet the regulatory requirements
for casual exposure to the eye. As with any source of bright light, however, Nokia
Siemens Networks recommends not to look into the laser light source.

Handling optical fibers

During testing and maintenance, some procedures require the handling of optical fibers
that may be connected to optical transmitters. Under these circumstances, laser radia-
tion within the limits of Class 1 might be present. Since Class 1 radiations of sufficient
magnitude to cause injury to personnel, caution must be used to avoid exposure. These
precautions apply to any point in the system where the laser signal can be accessed.
When working with optical fibers, comply with the following precautions:

A25000-A0800-E031-01-76P1 35
Issue: 1 Issue date: May 2013
Cabling of FPH800 IDU HW Install

• Properly terminate all optical fiber jumper cable outputs before connecting the
inputs.
• When using patch cords, make sure that the each ferrule is covered by its protective
cap.
• Disconnect the input connector of the optical fiber jumper cable before disconnect-
ing the output connector. Ensure that the optical fiber jumper cable output is safely
terminated before reconnecting the input.
• Handle fibers with care. Glass fiber is subject to breakage if mishandled. Injury or
permanent equipment damage can result from using broken fiber.
• Do not directly view the laser component of the modules from the output source, the
output connector, or an unterminated fiber. The laser radiation can seriously
damage your eyesight.
• Do not directly view the laser component of this product using an optical instrument
without proper protective eye wear, filtering, or attenuation.
• Avoid physical exposure to the laser beam.
• Avoid direct exposure to fiber ends or optical connector ends that are in the laser's
signal path.
• Place all optical fiber cuttings in a suitable container.
• Handle optical fibers with care. Keep them in a safe and secure location during
installation.
• Protect unconnected optical fiber connectors with dust caps.
• Follow the manufacturer's instructions when using an optical test set. Incorrect cal-
ibration or control settings could result in hazardous levels of radiation.

The following steps aplly to cabling the opitcal SFP GE interfaces on the mainboard or
the SFP interfaces on 4-port SFP card in pluggable slot.
1 Insert the optical SFP module into the GE SFP interface.
