FOOD SECURITY ISSUES IN THE PHILIPPINES

Food insecurity is the clear and present danger of the Philippines as a country; challenges
were there years ago and have worsened in these current times with the COVID-19
Pandemic and now with the sustained Ukraine- Russian War.

The agricultural sector mandated to handle food security for the country is confronted with
a short-fall of production because of a quagmire of issues. The Philippines geographical
location is within the Pacific Rim of Fire and with that meteorological events such as
typhoons numbering to more or less twenty typhoons annually generally becomes a threat
to the agricultural sector; and as such this becomes overly complex with the impacts of
climate change.
