GRAMMAR (PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE – PPCT)
I´ve been working hard
I have been studying a lot

He hasn´t been drinking

1) We use the PPC to say that an action has been happening continously from some pont in the past until the
present
- Mary started teaching the class at 3 o´clock. It is now 5 and Mary is still teaching the class. So, Mary
has been teaching the class for two hours.
2) The PPC is formed with HAVE/HAS [NOT] + BEEN + -ING
- Have they been doing their homework regularly?
3) We often use the PPC to ask or say how long a continuous action has been happening (with since or for)
- It´s December. He has been working here since September/for three months
4) If the continuous action has just ended, or if it may change, we can still use the PPCT to emphasize that it
has been happening until now
- Of course she doesn´t understand, she hasn´t been listening.
5) Another common use of the PPC is to emphasize that an action has been happening repeatedly, without an
idea of how many times
- Nick hasn´t been exercising as often as he should
