CHILDREN OF HEAVEN (middle east movie)

SUMMARY: The two come from a poor family. The movie is centered on an event where Ali loses his
sister’s shoe, and he begs her to conceal the loss because their family is already going through enough
financial troubles.

THEME: a film depicting different issues facing the society today.  Moral responsibilities, family ties, and
survival using limited resources. They also include family, urban, and physical boundaries between the
rich and the poor.

SETTINGS: Iranian Setting

PLOT:

 Introduction: A nine-year-old Ali pays the shoemaker and runs out through the tattered
curtain that serves as his door, past the tiny shop. When Ali heads to the grocer to buy
potatoes, he hides the repaired shoes behind a box. Her mother has not paid the bill, says
the grocer. During Ali's search for the cheapest, cast-off potatoes, a junk man pulls a junk
cart by and picks up the shoes. Ali panics when he realizes his sister's shoes are missing,
spilling produce while searching. He runs home and, with tears in his eyes, honestly tells
his younger sister Zahara that he has lost her shoes.
 Rising action: The siblings had a problem on how they are going to school since Ali lost the pair
of shoe of her sister. So ali decided that they can take turns in using his sneakers that caused him
being late and almost being expelled in school.
 Climax: Zahra sees that another girl has found her shoes, but when the brother and sister follow
the girl to her home, they find out that her father is blind, so Ali and Zahara decide not to make an
issue over the pink shoes.
 Falling action: Ali heard that there is an upcoming citywide cross country marathon for all the
schools in Teheran. The first and second place prizes do not interest Ali, but he reads on the
school bulletin board that the runner who places third will win a new pair of sneakers. After much
pleading and crying, the coach decides to let him run.
 Conclusion: The film ends with the final shot showing blisters on Ali's feet. That shows his
sacrifices and love for her sister and his family in a way that he doesn’t want to be a burden to
their parents that’s why he solve the problem about the pair of shoe he had lost for his sister.
