Jose Rizal goes to Biñan Laguna.
-June, 1869 Rizal left for biñan
- Was accompanied by Paciano his older brother
- He was taught by Maestro Justiniano
- In academic studies, Rizal beat all Binan boys
- He surpassed them all in Spanish, Latin, and other subjects

On June 10, 1872, Jose together with his brother went to Manila to grant his
wish of enrolling Jose in San Juan de Letran. Jose Rizal took the entrance
examination and passed them with flying colors, then he went back to
Calamba to stay for a while with his family and attend their town fiesta only
to find out that his father’s wish changed instead of enrolling him to San
Juan de Letran he wished to enroll him to Ateneo de Manila. Thus, being an
obedient child, upon his return to Manila accompanied again by his brother
Paciano, they proceeded to Ateneo Municipal. At first Father Magin
Fernando, who was the college registrar, denied them of admittance for two
reasons: 1.) he was late for registration and 2.) he was sickly and undersize
for his age. Jose Rizal was then eleven years old. However, they sought the
intercession of Manual Xerez Burgos, nephew of Father Burgos. As a result,
he was reluctantly admitted at the Ateneo.

Medical Studies in University of Sto. Thomas (1877-1882)


- After graduating , he continued his education at UST
- He finished a year in Philosophy and Letters
- He decided to shift to a medical course
- UST was under the Dominicans , rival of the Jesuits in education
- Remained loyal to Ateneo participated in extracurricular activities in Ateneo
and completed a course in surveying
- As a Thomasian he won more literary laurels
- During his first term in 1877-1878 in UST, he studied Cosmology, Metaphysics
, Theodicy and History of Philosophy.
- It was during the school term 1878-1879 that Rizal pursued his studies in
medicine
José Rizal was born on June 19, 1861 to Francisco Rizal
Mercado y Alejandro and Teodora Alonso Realonda y Quintos
in the town of Calamba in Laguna province. He had nine
sisters and one brother. His parents were leaseholders of a
hacienda and an accompanying rice farm held by the
Dominicans.

3 May 1882

Rizal left Philippines for the first time Spain. He boarded the Salvadora using
a passport of Jose Mercado, which was procured for him by his uncle Antonio
Rivera, father of Leonor Rivera. He was accompanied to the quay where the
Salvadora was moored by his uncle Antonio, Vicente Gella, and Mateo
Evangelista.

16 June 1882

At 12:00 noon, Rizal arrived at Barcelona and boarded in the Fonda De


España. He lived there for 3 months. 20 August 1882 His article "Amor
Patrio" was published in the Diarong Tagalog, a Manila newspaper edited by
Basilio Teodoro. This was the First article he wrote abroad.

October 4, 1882 – Rizal recited his


poem “Me Piden Versus” at the
Circulo Hispano – Filipino.

17 June 1883 - Rizal arrived at Paris. He spent the whole day walking
around and observing the beautiful cities.

18 June 1883 - With Felipe Zamora and Cunanan, He visited the Leannec
Hospital to observe how Dr, Nicaise treated his patients. He was stunned
to see the advanced facilities in the accommodation in the said hospital.

19 June 1883 - He again visited Dr. Nicaise who showed the technique of
operation. Later he went to see dupytren Museum.
PARIS: 20 June 1883 - Rizal visited the Lariboisiere Hospital where Felix Pardo
de Tavera was an extern. Here he observe the examination of the different
diseases of women.

21 June 1883 - After watching the done by Dr. Duply, he went to the Jardin d’
Acclimatation situated outside the Paris in the Forest of Bologna. He found
there plants of all species and the rarest and most beautiful birds.

Dr. Rizal had resided in Berlin. It is two blocks from the famous Unter den
Linden boulevard in Berlin. The Unter den Linden boulevard as seen during
Rizals time. Rizal had frequented the Unter den Linden because there were
several coffee houses in this wide avenue where he could read newspapers.

April 22, 1886 – Rizal wrote the poem “A Las Flores de Heidelberg”.

March 21, 1887 – copies of Noli Me Tangere went of the press.

August 5, 1887 – Rizal came back


to Manila.

August 30, 1887 – Possession and


reading of Noli Me Tangere was
prohibited.
