GLOBAL

WARMING
INTRODUCTION

 The increasing amount of greenhouse Gases increases

the greenhouse effect casing more heat to be trapped in
the Atmosphere. The earth’s average temperature
increases is known as “Global Warming
 Global warming is the current rise in temperature of the
air and oceans. It is happening mainly because humans
burn coal, oil, and natural gas; and cut down forests.
 The present global warming is mostly because of people
burning things, like gasoline for cars and natural gas to
keep houses warm. But the heat from the burning itself
only makes the world a tiny bit warmer.
 Among greenhouse gases, the increase of carbon dioxide
in the atmosphere is the main cause of global warming.
REASONS FOR GLOBAL WARMING:-

Heat-trapping Greenhouse Gases And The

Earth's Climate.
Greenhouse Gases.
Reflectivity or Absorption of the Sun's Energy.
Changes in the Earth's Orbit and Rotation.
Variations in Solar Activity.
Changes in the Earth's Reflectivity.
Volcanic Activity.
Burning of Fossil fuels.
Deforestation and waste disposal.

 Heat trapping Green House Gases: The greenhouse

effect is the way in which heat is trapped close to Earth's
surface by “greenhouse gases.” These heat-trapping gases
can be thought of as a blanket wrapped around Earth.

Green House Gases: A greenhouse gas is a

gas that absorbs and emits radiant energy
within the thermal infrared range, causing the
greenhouse effect.

Reflectivity or Absorption of the Sun's

Energy:
In total approximately 70% of incoming
radiation is absorbed by the atmosphere and
the Earth's surface while around 30% is
reflected back to space and does not heat the
surface.
Changes in the Earth's Reflectivity:
Dark objects and surfaces, like the ocean,
forests, and soil, tend to absorb more sunlight.
Light-coloured objects and surfaces, like snow
and clouds, tend to reflect sunlight. About 70
percent of the sunlight that reaches the earth is
absorbed.
Volcanic Activity:
Volcanic activity ranges from emission of
gases, non-explosive lava emissions to
extremely violent explosive bursts that may
last many hours.

Burning of Fossil Fuels:

When fossil fuels are burned, they release
large amounts of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse
gas, into the air.

Industries
Deforestation and Waste Disposal:
Deforestation or forest clearance is the
removal of a forest or stand of trees from land
that is then converted to non-forest use. The
most concentrated deforestation occurs in
tropical rainforests.

Deforestation due to cutting and Burning of Trees.

Waste Disposal:
Waste disposal means removing, discarding,
recycling or destroying unwanted materials
called waste that is produced from agriculture,
domestic usage or industrial products.

Soil pollution due to non-biodegradable

wastes.

DISADVANTAGES:-
Changes on climate can lead to reduction in
agricultural production causing food shortage
and possible result can be starvation,
malnutrition and increased death.
Ocean circulation is disrupted and this can
affect the climate.
Higher sea level may cause deaths and disease
from floods and property loss by evacuation.
Increase in acidity of rainfall and air pollution
may result in allergy and asthma in human.
Due to the higher temperature, materials like
brick and wood can decay and damage faster.
More frequent and intense drought, storms,
heat waves, rising sea levels, melting glaciers
and warming oceans can directly harm
animals, destroy the places they live, and
wreak havoc on people's livelihoods and
communities.
 As climate change worsens, dangerous
weather events are becoming more frequent or
severe.

GLOBAL WARMING PREVENTION

Renewable Energies:-

The first way to prevent climate change is to

move away from fossil fuels and concentrate
on Renewable energies like solar, wind,
biomass and geothermal.

Energy & water efficiency:-

Producing clean energy is essential, but
reducing our consumption of energy and water
by using more efficient devices (e.g. LED light
bulbs, innovative shower systems) is less
costly and equally important.

Sustainable transportation:-

Promoting public transportation, carpooling,

but also electric and hydrogen mobility, can
definitely help reduce CO2 emissions and thus
fight global warming.

Sustainable infrastructure:-

In order to reduce the CO2 emissions from

buildings - caused by heating, air conditioning,
hot water or lighting.
It is necessary both to build new low energy
buildings, and to renovate the existing
constructions.

Sustainable agriculture & Forest

Management:-
Encouraging better use of natural resources,
stopping massive deforestation as well as
making agriculture greener and more efficient
should also be a priority.

Responsible consumption and Recycling:-

Adopting responsible consumption habits is

crucial, be it regarding food (particularly
meat), clothing, cosmetics or cleaning
products. Last but not least, recycling is an
absolute necessity for dealing with waste.
