PRIMARY HEALTH CARE

Primary healthcare (PHC) is necessary

healthcare that is made available to all people, is
acceptable to them, involves their full
participation, and is affordable to the community
and the nation. It is a method of looking at health
that goes beyond the conventional health care
system and concentrates on social policy that
promotes health fairness. Basic aspects and goals
of primary health care (PHC) contribute to the
improvement of health services for all people.
Bringing care closer to the patient's home and involving the
community are key components of primary health care. The UHC
Act is only the first step on our path toward ensuring the health
of all Filipinos
Primary health care includes care, prevention, promotion, and
education to address the health needs of all patients at the
community level. By reducing overall health care spending while
enhancing access and population health, primary care enhances
the performance of health systems.

T health.

S Safe water and sanitation

I. Education
The first and most crucial element of primary healthcare is education.
The World Health Organization strives to prevent disease from spreading
on an individual level by educating the public on the prevention and
control of health problems and promoting involvement.

II. Local Disease Control

Promoting primary health care in a population depends on the prevention
and control of local diseases. Numerous diseases have regional variations.
Key components of attempts to lower infection rates include taking these
diseases into consideration and implementing prevention strategies.
III. Essential Drugs Management

By providing essential drugs to those who need them, such as antibiotics to

those with infections, caregivers can help prevent disease from escalating. This
makes the community safer, as there is less chance for diseases to be passed
along.

IV. Maternal and Child Care

Another crucial component of basic healthcare is providing children and mothers, both
pregnant and not, with complete and adequate medical treatment. WHO gives future
generations a chance to flourish and contribute to society by taking care of those who are
most vulnerable to health issues. Care for these people can occasionally include providing
them with necessary family planning and safe sex education.
V. Expanded program of immunization

By providing overall vaccines, WHO seeks to prevent serious

infectious illnesses, significantly enhancing global health.

VI. Nutritional food supplement

Another essential aspect of health care is nutrition. The WHO
strives to stop various diseases and afflictions, as well as
malnutrition and starvation.
VII. Treatment of communicable and non-communicable diseases

Suitable medical therapy for the healing of illnesses and accidents. Caregivers can
assist prevent complications and the cost of later, more comprehensive medical
treatment by treating illness and injury as soon as possible.

VIII.Sanitation

A population's health can be considerably improved by providing access to clean,

safe drinking water as well as basic sanitation practices for waste, sewage, and
water cleanliness. This can result in a decrease or even elimination of many
diseases that could be prevented.
4 Major Pillars of PHC

1. Community Participation

People in the community are involved and take part in the

decision-making process when it comes to their own health.
To draw attention to the community's needs for health care is a
social strategy.
Community participation involves the involvement of the people in
the community in all aspects of planning, organization, decision-
making, and the execution of health programs.
2. Inter-sectoral Coordination

When completing several tasks to obtain health services, inter-

sectoral collaboration is essential.
It's critical to integrate specialized organizations, the commercial
sector, and the governmental sector if we want to improve
healthcare facilities.
Intersectoral coordination will make sure that various sectors work
together and depend on one another to meet the requirements of
the public in terms of health care.
It also describes the process of providing healthcare in an integrated
manner.
3.Appropriate Technology

An essential technique for enhancing the availability and accessibility of

healthcare services is the use of appropriate healthcare technologies

It is "technology that is scientifically sound, adaptable to local needs, and

acceptable to those who apply it and to whom it is applied, and that can be
maintained by people themselves in keeping with the principle of self-

reliance with the resources the community and country can afford."

Using less expensive, reliable from a scientific standpoint, and accepted

tools and methods is referred to as appropriate technology.
4. Support Mechanism Made Available

A well-known method used in primary healthcare to improve

quality of life is the support mechanism.

In order to achieve the objectives of primary health care, the

clients get instrumental, personal, physical, mental, and spiritual
assistance

A sufficient number and distribution of qualified doctors, nurses,

community health workers, allied health professionals, and
others who collaborate as a health team and are supported at the
local and referral levels are necessary for primary health care.
