Module Conveyor Manual

1. Function Overview
A module conveyor can be placed on a base as a substitute for a module. The module
conveyor is used when there are multiple lines or when the number of modules in the line is
changed to meet production needs and line balance is changed.

2. Required items
The following items are required when using a module conveyor in a line configuration.
1. Module conveyor,M3 type, M6 type
2. Flexa V2.5.1 and later
3. Fujitrax V3.05 and later

3. Operation
Module conveyors are used when there are multiple lines or when the number of modules in
a line is changed and production capability is adjusted.

E.g.) There are 3 lines, 12 M3 modules and 9 M6 modules. Line balance is changed due to
production needs. A module conveyor is inserted into a position where a module has not
been allocated.

Note: Module conveyors must be placed starting from the beginning or end of a line.
When using a module conveyor in a paired module production line, use a module conveyor
for each unit of the paired module.
When transport conveyors (labeled C in the diagram) are allocated as a previous machine
or next machine of a line with a module conveyor, an independent model is required.
4. Setting up a module conveyor in a line
Use the following procedure to allocate module conveyors in a line.
1. Return any nozzles by using the manual command.
2. Delete any current and next jobs in the machine using Fuji Flexa.
3. Use the cleaning command in manual mode to unclamp the module.
4. Turn off the main switch on the machine base.
5. Exchange the module with the module conveyor.
Remove the module using the Module Changeover Unit (MCU).
Attach the module conveyor to the MCU.
Connect the cables to the module conveyor.
For details refer to the “NXT Module Conveyor Instruction Manual”.
6. Turn on the main switch on the machine base.
7. Set the module conveyor in the line configuration using Flexa and send a line change
notification. (When changing the line configuration in Flexa, it is recommended not to
change the name of the line. For cautions when changing the line name, refer to section
“6. Changing to a line configuration which was created with a different line name in Fuji
Flexa” of this report.
If a machine exists with the same model name as the machine in the line which is to
have its line configuration changed, perform the following steps:
a. Change the line which is to have its line configuration changed into a virtual line.
b. Delete the machine which is targeted for the change.
c. Create the machine again using a different model name and then change the line
back to a real line.

(This is not necessary if there are no other machines sharing the same model name.)
In Director, select the machine which has the module conveyor installed and then click
[Model Default Value] from the [Edit Machine] dialog box.

Change the [Module Type] to [M6-Conveyor] at the position where the module conveyor
is installed.

Note: If two M3 modules have been removed for an M6-conveyor, then delete the extra M3

module that was removed. The default configuration should now match that of the

actual machine in modules.

8. Set the module conveyor in the line configuration in Fujitrax.
Start KIT Line Configuration, change the [Module Type] to [M6-Conveyor] at the position
where the module conveyor is installed.

Note: When changing 2 M3 modules to M6-Conveyor, right-click the extra module and then

delete it by selecting [Delete] to decrease the number of modules by one to conform to

the actual module configuration.

After making the changes, reboot the Fuji Central Server computer.
9. Use the [Clamp module] command from [Remote operation] in Accessory Software to
clamp the module conveyor.
10. Turn the main switch off and then on for the base which has the module conveyor
installed.
11. Optimize the job for the lines.
Change the [Module Type] to [M6-Conveyor] at the position where the module conveyor
is installed.

Note: If two M3 modules have been removed for an M6-conveyor, then delete the extra M3

module that was removed. The default configuration should now match that of the

actual machine in modules.

12. Transmit the job to the machine

13. Adjust the panel width of the module conveyor. (Use the handle to manually adjust the
panel width). For details refer to the “NXT Module Conveyor Instruction Manual”.
5. Removing a module conveyor from a line
Use the following procedure to remove a module conveyor from a line.
1. Return any nozzles by using the manual command.
2. Delete any current and next jobs in the machine using Fuji Flexa.
3. Ensure that there are no panels inside the machine.
4. Turn off the main power circuit protector on the module conveyor.
5. Use the [Unclamp module] command from [Remote operation] in Accessory Software to
unclamp the module conveyor. If forced removal is performed, the M3 type is unloaded
as a paired module
In Accessory Software, an error message (6808: seating sensor error) appears but this
is not an error

6. Turn off the main switch on the machine base.

7. Set the module in the line configuration in Fuji Flexa.
This procedure is the same as for when installing a module conveyor. In Director, select
the machine where the module conveyor is to be removed and then click [Model Default
Values] from the [Edit Machine] dialog box.
Change the [Module Type] setting to the appropriate module type (M3 or M6) to match
the module type that is installed at the location the module conveyor was removed.
Note: If two M3 modules were set to replace a M6 module, then use the [Add] button to add a

module to the location at which the extra M3 module was set.

8. Set the module in the line configuration of Fuji Flexa.

This procedure is the same as for when installing a module conveyor. Start KIT Line
Configuration, change the [Module Type] setting to the appropriate module type (M3 or
M6) to match the module type that is installed at the location the module conveyor was
removed. Furthermore, check the settings for [Feeder Verification].
When changing the [Module Type] to a [M6-Conveyor], the setting for [Feeder
Verification] is automatically turned off. However, the setting for [Feeder Verification]
remains off if this setting is changed to a M3 or M6.
Note: When changing an M6-Conveyor to 2 M3 modules, right-click on the module and then

add an extra module by selecting [Add Module] to increase the number of modules by

one to match the actual module configuration.

After making the changes, reboot the Fuji Central Server computer.
9. Change the module conveyor to a module.
Remove the cable which is connected to the module conveyor and remove the module
conveyor with a module change unit (MCU).
Install the module from the MCU.
Attach the cables to the module.
Slide the module onto the base.
For details refer to the “NXT Module Conveyor Instruction Manual”.
10. Turn on the main power for the base.
11. Optimize the job for the lines

After changing the module configuration, perform optimization.

12. Transmit the job to the machine
6. Changing to a line configuration which was created with a different line name in Fuji
Flexa
When installing or removing a module conveyor, prepare in advance a line configuration with
a different line name in Fuji Flexa. When changing the line configuration and depending on
the switch between a real and virtual line, the following cautions must be considered.
1. Before changing a line to a virtual line from the line which was being used, production
data reports in line reporter should be created. Reports cannot be created after
changing the line into a virtual line.
2. If the line name in Fuji Flexa is different from the line name set in Fujitrax KIT Line
Configuration, the following functions cannot be used.
• External changeover
• Fujitrax Profiler reference designator collection

7. When changing the flow direction of a line

When changing the flow direction of a line, the module conveyor allocation must also be
changed in the model default value settings in Fuji Flexa.

8. Pulling out modules

When pulling out modules due to such things as changeover, perform any one of the
following operations to stop the module conveyor.
• Push and hold START for more than 2 seconds. The operation lamp turns off and the
module conveyor stops.
• Push the EMERGENCY STOP button on the module conveyor.
• Turn off the main power circuit protector on the module conveyor.
9. Placing a module conveyor between modules
Module conveyors must be positioned at the front or end of the machine.
If a module conveyor is placed between modules, the NXT machine must be divided into two
machines in the line and the module conveyor must be placed at the front or end of the
machine.
However, machines can only be divided by bases. A module conveyor cannot be allocated
between modules on the same base.

10. Cautions when using the board skip function

When using the board skip function at the first module of a line with a module conveyor at the
front, a dialog box displays cautioning the user. However, if [OK] is pushed the screen
changes to the screen where board skip settings can be entered.
11. Cautions when using paired module production
An M3 module conveyor and an M3 module cannot be paired for paired module
production. If you want to use a module conveyor for panels that use paired module
production, use one of the following setups.

• Use a M6 module conveyor.

• Use 2 M3 module conveyors.

*During single module production, an M3 module conveyor and an M3 module can be

set up next to each other.

12. Conveyable range

1. The maximum panel length which can be conveyed on an M6 module conveyor is 534 mm.
2. The maximum panel length which can be conveyed on an M3 module conveyor is 305
mm.
*To use a panel length larger than 305 mm, use an M6 module conveyor or pair 2 M3 module
conveyors.
