Sample Registration System (SRS) bulletin (Latest - May 2020)
 Initiated on a pilot basis by the Registrar General of India in a few states in

 1964-65

released by the Registrar General of India 
 


 It became fully operational during 1969-70. 

Recent release is based on data collected for 2018 
 


 The data obtained by two independent functionaries 

The SRS is a demographic survey for providing reliable annual estimates of
following indicators at the national and sub-national levels

i)Resident part-time enumerators (anganwadi workers and teachers)



- Infant mortality rate (िशशु मृत्यु दर)

ii)SRS supervisors (survey every six months )

- Birth rate (जन्म दर)

- Death rate (मृत्यु दर)
 

- Natural growth rate

Registrar General of India founded in 1961 by Government of India under Ministry crude measure of fertility of a population and is a crucial determinant of
of Home Affairs
 population growth


 

It arranges, conducts and analyses the results of the demographic surveys of India It is number of live births per thousand population in a given region and year

including Census of India and Linguistic Survey of India. 
 


 National Birth Rate - 20.0 (2018) 36.9(1971)

The position of Registrar is usually held by a civil servant holding the rank of Joint 

Secretary.
 Birth Rate in the last decade - 11% decline

Death Rate


Death rate is one of the simplest measures of mortality 


It is defined as the number of deaths per thousand population in a given region and time period 


National Death Rate - 6.2 (2018) 14.9(1971)


Death Rate in the last decade -

7.3 (2009) to 6.2 (2018)


Rural Death Rate - 6.7 (2018) 7.8 (2009)


Urban Death Rate - 5.1 (2018) 5.8 (2009)

The rate of decline in these 10 years has been higher in rural areas (around Infant Mortality Rate (IMR)

14.5%) than in the urban areas (12.7%). 
 


 It is widely accepted as a crude indicator of the overall health scenario of a
