A Reflection on REED002 Engagement (RED-LMO Collaboration)

When I first heard that I’ll be required to join the activities offered by the Campus
Ministry, I was thrilled and excited as it’s been so long since I’ve joined these types of
activities related to Church. And while I was picking which should I register to, I saw
Catechism and the Synodal Listening Circle. I was overwhelmed by how much I want to
join the Catechism one, however, participants were limited. I really wanted to join because
I was a Catechist at my previous school. It was during my 10th grade, and I learned a lot
from the kids I taught. But since it was full, I joined the Lasallian Rosary and the Synodal
Listening Circle.
But a problem occurred, and my anxiety devoured me. I was aware of my first
schedule for the Synodal Listening Circle, but I intentionally missed it and choose to
hangout with my close friends and calmed myself down. It was a really bad day, so I got
scared of sharing about myself to people I consider as strangers. I explained this to the
current host, and she told me to reschedule myself again. Then later at night of that day,
it was my schedule for the Lasallian Rosary. I attended it with my best friend, and I got to
experience praying the Lasallian Rosary even though its pandemic. It was a memorable
day and experience.
Weeks passed and the second summative week is getting nearer. And when Sir
Friend mentioned that we still have time to attend these activities, I immediately
scheduled myself for the last schedule of the Synodal Listening Circle.
Then D-Day comes, and it started. I got scared again but I encouraged myself to
do it and reassured myself that nothing bad will happen. And the activity goes, I actively
participated as we’re only three at that time and honestly, it wasn’t bad. I did get anxious
by sharing about myself and about other stuff that is related to the Church, however, it
was a fun experience. I got to share and was listened to. It was great and it felt great. I
was also able to express my enthusiasm to Catechism and Ms. Olorga told me that she’ll
someday message me to join some activities held by the Campus Ministry.
I learned a lot from these activities and what I learned most is fear hinders us from
doing things that are good for us. And facing this fear will be another step of us in growing
as a better and strong person. I learned that I must not let fear to overwhelm and
overcome me. I must not let it stop me from engaging myself to activities that can help
me and help others.
