Floods

A natural phenomenon that occurs as a result of rising water

levels in rivers, and the relationship between the speed of water
flow from the source to the riverbed and the amount of flood is a
direct relationship, the higher the speed of the water flow, the
greater the flood and vice versa.

Flood forecast
Meteorologists can predict floods, through satellites that send
pictures of rivers with a measurement of the depth of these
rivers and the water level of these rivers.

The rate of floods is constantly increasing, as in China, the

Yangtze River flooded once every twenty years, but now it has
flooded every nine years out of every ten years, and the Rhine
River in Germany rose four times between the years “1900-
1977” at a level higher than the flood level by 7. 6 meters , and
this level increased dozens of times between 1987 and 1996 .
Causes of floods
1- removing large areas of forests, as these forests were located
on the headwaters of rivers, which consume large amounts of
water, and thus the amount of water consumed from the river
decreases, and also as a result of the uprooting of forest trees,
the soil disintegrated and drifted into the course of the river, thus
removing some obstacles that were Contribute to obstructing the
speed of river flow.
2- The occurrence of earthquakes at the bottom of the seas.

3- Ice pouring into rivers after melting.

4- Strong storms and hurricanes.

5- An increase in precipitation levels.

6- The collapse of dams that store large amounts of water.

7- A change in water pressure at the bottom of the oceans.

Flood Losses

Floods affect all aspects of life, whether human or agricultural.

The city that is affected by a flood does not return to its first
state until after a long time, and floods cause great human losses
as a result of a large number of deaths as a result of drowning or
electrocution, or through epidemics and diseases that spread As
a result of water pollution and its transformation into unfit for
drinking, floods also cause famines in countries as a result of the
sinking of agricultural crops and thus their death.
