TOPIC: MOVING CHARGES AND MAGNETISM

ALL THE BEST!

TIME : 1 Hour
MM: 30

1.Two identical circular loops, P and Q, each of radius r and carrying equal currents are
kept in the parallel planes having a common axis passing through O. The direction of
current in P is clockwise and in Q is anti-clockwise as seen from O which is
equidistant from the loops P and Q. Find the magnitude of the net magnetic field at O.
(2)

2. Derive an expression for the magnetic field inside a Toroid. (2)

3. Using Biot-Savart’s law, derive an expression for magnetic field at any point on
axial line of a current carrying circular loop. Hence, find magnitude of magnetic field
intensity at the centre of circular coil. (3)

4. (i) What is Ampere Circutal Law.(1)

(ii) What is Biot - Savart's Law.(1)

(iii) What is The Unit of Magnetic Field.(1)

5. A circular coil of N turns and radius R carries a current I. It is unwound and

rewound to make another coil of radius R/2, current I remaining the same. Calculate
the ratio of the magnetic moments of the new coil and the original coil.(3)

6. Define The Terms (i) current sensitivity (ii) voltage sensitivity of Galvanometer.
Why does increasing the current sensitivity not necessarily increase voltage sensitivity?
(3)

7. What is ammeter? How can a galvanometer be converted into an ammeter?

Explain. Define 1 ampere of current? (3)

8. The eletron in a hydrogen atom moves around a proton with a speed of 2.18 x
100 m/sec in an orbit of radius 5.3 x 10m. Calculate (1) Equivalent current (2)
Magnetic field produced at the proton. (3)

9. A Galvanometer coil of 50 ohm resistance shows full scale deflection for a

current of 5 mA. How will you convert this galvanometer into a voltmeter of range 0 to
15 V ? (3)

10. What is moving coil Galvanometer? Explain its working, principle and
construction? (5)
