SIEVE ANALYSIS
I. Introduction:
Sieve analysis deals with the method for the determination of grain size distribution
in soils thru shaking the soil sample through a set of sieves that have progressively
by mass of the various sizes of particles present in the soil. The distribution of
different grain sizes affects the engineering properties of soil. Grain size analysis
provides the grain size distribution, and it is required in classifying the soil.
II. Objective:
III. Procedure:
(3) Record the weights of each sieve as well as the bottom pan to be used in the
analysis.
(4) Check the sieves for any loose screen, holes in the screen or tears at the screens.
It must be clean before used, assemble it inn ascending order from sieve number
4 at the top and sieve number 200 at the bottom. Pace the pan below sieve number
200. Pour the dry clay sample into the top sieve and shake the sieve stack.
(5) Shake the sieve stack for about 10 minutes.
(6) Record the retained soil in each sieve with it, record also the weight of bottom pan
V. Conclusion:
the sieve analysis. It is where a certain amount of gravel and sand is to be sieve from
coarse down into fine pieces wherein different sizes will be separated and check if the
sieved aggregates are well balanced. Aggregates that are to be used in constructions
must consist the different sizes (fine and coarse) for it will help our structure to be stronger
and though.
VI. Appendices:
Record the weights of each sieve The sieve stack is shaken for 10
as well
v as the bottom pan. minutes.
