The importance of fact-checking and not spreading fake news

“RESPONSIBLE GEN Z”
Did you know that Facebook users share more than 4.75 billion items every day? And
can you imagine that the majority of the shared items are full of false information,
harmful to other people, and misleading? What will happen if we believe these lies or
so-called fake news?

In the current generation, losing your phone is comparable to losing yourself. Some of
us simply care about how many likes we will receive for each post we make. We know a
lot of social media influencers share fake news online just for content and attention.
Social media platforms allow us to interact with our loved ones, as well as to access and
exchange information, thoughts, and opinions.

News is something that is based on facts and data, although it may also be misled by
false information spread on social media. Many innovative editors take advantage of
this because they know people will believe them. They edit news to some intense
outcome. The majority of people in this world are deeply stuck in the newspaper, radio,
and also the most accessible and convenient manner to use social media or using
gadgets and technology because it is free and everyone has access to, even kids.

Why do we need to be cautious as to what we post online and what will happen if we
circulate false information?

On social media, I've also spread some fake news once. It is a death hoax rumor
involving a well-known pool player in the Philippines known by the moniker "Magician." I
put it online, and it received a lot of sad responses. Many people also reposted it on
their walls. Another post that claimed it was bogus news was made an hour ago, and
the Magician himself confirmed it. And I was like… embarrassed because of that
embarrassment I deleted that post and told myself to verify first if it's fake news.

We all know fake news most often intrigues people, and it frequently has a negative
impact, occasionally offending regular people. In rare cases, it can also develop hostility
toward each other and influence a person's point of view.

Fact-checking is crucial or a must for disproving false information, therefore do one

before sharing or believing it. So what steps can we take to prevent being misled?
My advice is to act like a detective, check credentials, look for bias, check the sources,
check dates and judge hard. We all know that google is an engine that gives
information, We can use google for other references like trusted sites. And also learn to
distinguish opinion from facts.

We must take initiative now! Technology is the new hype so we must stay wise. Think
before you click and believe in what you see or read online.

Today be a responsible teenager because you, You are the future, the role model of the
next generations. Together we’ll have a bright future if we care for each other.
