Example of GMOs

POTATO
Some genetically modified (GMO) potatoes have been developed to be resistant
to insect pests and disease. Furthermore, certain GMO potato cultivars have been
designed to withstand the bruising and browning that can occur when potatoes are
packaged, stored, and transported in your kitchen, or even sliced. While browning does
not affect the quality of the potato, it frequently results in food being thrown away
unnecessarily because people mistake browned food for damaged food.

APPLES
Some apples grown throughout the world have been injected with GMO
technology to help improve their resistance to browning after picking. This fluctuation
contributes to a reduction in trash generated throughout the apple picking season.
Brown apples tend to go to waste because customers consider them stale, resulting in
massive waste over time.

CANOLA
GMO canola is mostly used to produce cooking oil and margarine. Canola seed
meal can also be used in animal feed. Canola oil is used to improve food consistency in
many packaged foods. Most GMO canola is herbicide resistant, allowing farmers to
control weeds more easily in their fields.

SUGAR BEET
Another crop that has been heavily genetically engineered, particularly in the
United States, is sugar beet. It has been shown that over 95% of all sugar beets grown
in this region possess glyphosate-resistant varieties substances that enable them to be
"roundup ready" This means that sugar beets have been genetically modified to be
resistant to all sorts of herbicide roundups. Sugar beets are the most often utilized
source of sugar. If the products you're buying don't contain cane sugar, they're probably
made from genetically modified sugar beets.

SQUASH
Some plant viruses are resistant to GMO squash. Squash was one of the first
GMO crops to hit the market, although it is still not commonly grown.

PAPAYA
One of the most popular fruits growing in Hawaii is papaya. Unfortunately, over
90% of all papayas planted in this region have been genetically manipulated to become
viral-resistant to a specific type of the ringspot virus. If you want to buy papaya from a
local vendor, make sure to search for organic certifications before you buy.
SOYBEANS
The majority of soy farmed in the United States is genetically modified (GMO)
soy. The majority of GMO soy is used to feed animals, mostly poultry and livestock, and
to produce soybean oil. It is also utilized as an ingredient (lecithin, emulsifiers, and
proteins) in processed meals.

CORN
Corn is the most widely farmed crop in the entire United States, although the
majority of this product contains a huge number of GMOs. GMOs in corn contribute to
the production of plant that is resistant to numerous insect pests and may even
withstand the negative effects of herbicides Bacillus thuringiensis corn is a GMO crop
that produces proteins that are toxic to some insect pests but not to humans, pests,
animals, or other livestock.
