Your Captain
Captain Giorgio Pomata, the Officers and Crew, take
pleasure in welcoming you aboard the Emerald
Princess. We will make every effort to make this cruise
a memorable experience. Our Captain, Giorgio
Pomata, was born in the small town of Carloforte on
the Island of San Pietro. Growing up on an island in the
middle of the Mediterranean Sea, he had dreamed of
going to sea since being a child. Shortly after
graduating from nautical school in 1972, he joined the
Italian Navy where he served for 2 years, primarily with
the Italian Coast Guard. His Merchant Navy Career
began as a junior officer on board tankers between the years 1975 and 1978, and in
1978 he joined Sitmar Cruises. Since joining Sitmar, Captain Pomata has served on
board all the Sitmar ships and, following the merger with Princess Cruises, he
continued to serve in the position of Safety Officer on board Crown, Regal, Fair and
the original Star Princess. His first senior appointment was in January 1992, when he
served as Staff Captain on board Crown Princess. He has since served on board Sun
Princess, Dawn Princess, Royal Princess, Ocean Princess, Star Princess, Grand
Princess, Island Princess, Coral Princess and Emerald Princess as Captain.

GENERAL EMERGENCY STATIONS
Within twenty-four hours of boarding the ship,
ALL PASSENGERS will be exercised at their General
Emergency Stations. This exercise is a requirement of
law and you must attend. On commencement of the
exercise, broadcasts will be made, and alarm bells
will be sounded, calling you to your Muster Stations, as
indicated on the notice on the back of your stateroom
door. Please carry your life-jacket with you, do not wear
it and for safety's sake do not allow the ties to trail on
the deck. The correct method of wearing a life-jacket
will be demonstrated to you at the end of this muster.
