METHODOLOGY

Collection of Sugarcane
One (1) sack of sugarcane fruit will be collected from the researcher’s farm in Surallah,
South Cotabato. This will be washed thoroughly in preparation for extraction.

Preparation of Materials
Among the materials needed in the study are electric juicer, measuring cups, and
various containers. These will be washed thoroughly to observe cleanliness and order all
throughout the study period.

Preparation of Sugarcane Extract

After the sugarcane have been washed thoroughly it will be prepared for extraction. The
sugarcane will have to be peeled. It will be then put in the electric juicer to extract juice from
the sugarcane. This will be set aside for the preparation of treatments.

Preparation of Test Organisms

This study will be conducted to determine the feasibility of sugarcane extract as a
substitute to commercialized food supplement in chicken broilers. This study will utilize a total
of 6 chicken broilers as test organisms. Dividing the study into two set ups, there will be 3
chicken broilers in each set up.

Preparation of Treatments
This study will use two treatments to determine the effectivity of sugarcane extract as
an alternative food supplement in chicken broilers. Set up 1 will use a ¼ sugarcane extract is
to 1 cup corn feed ratio. Set up 2 will be the commercialized food supplement with the same
ratio as set up 1.

Labeling and Weighing

The growth rate of chicken broiler will be determined by, first, is the initial weight. Initial
weights of the bird will be taken at the start of the experimental study. Numbered leg bonds will
be placed in one of each chicken’s legs for proper identification during data gathering. Second
is the final weight, it is the weight of the chicken at the end of the study period. Third indicator
of the growth rate of the chicken is the gain in weight. It is measured through the average daily
weight. To achieve this result, the researchers will measure the weight of the chicken everyday
to determine the micro growth rates of chicken in varying treatments.
Feeding
Chicken broiler in different treatments will be feed with their corresponding rations
throughout the duration of the study. Chicken broiler in treatment 1 will be fed with 1 cup
chicken feed with ¼ sugarcane mixture while that of treatment 2 will be fed with pure chicken
feed. Clean fresh water will also be provided frequently as drinking water throughout the study
period.
Data Gathering
This study will utilize qualitative approach to gather and analyze the data that will be
collected. It will use completely randomized design to conduct experiment. The researchers
will observe, record, and compute the average of gathered data on a weekly basis (starting
from 14 to 35 days feed with sugarcane extract as food supplement) from the experiment that
will be conducted. This will serve as basis in determining the growth rate of chicken.
Statistical Analysis
The researcher will use T-test in order to determine the significant difference in the
growth rate of chicken broiler among the treatments which are the sugarcane extract as an
organic food supplement and the commercialized food supplement.
