SLA 102 03 Connections

I volunteered for the Hempfield Parks and Recreation Fall Festival on October 12th. The service

was supposed to go from 6pm-9pm but I got there around 5pm and they shut down the event

early at 8pm. It was a very fun event to help out with. It was a fall festival so there were a lot of

activities for the families that came, which I thought was really cool for a free event.

I gave out raffle tickets for the kids in costume. If a family had kids with costumes, they got to

get a raffle ticket which then went in a drawing to get free Walmart gift cards. I sat at a table and

got to hand these out, it was really fun to see all the kids in costumes and get to help out with this

event.

My partner drove me to the event and they let him stay and help which I thought was very neat.

He helped me give out the raffle tickets and they gave him volunteer hours for helping as well.

One moment I would like to remember is when one of the kids, probably around 7 came over

and asked if she could fill out a form herself. She got so happy when I said she could, it made me

happy helping her.

There were so many talents being used at this event. There was someone making balloon animals

who made my partner and I animals at the beginning of the event, he did this so kids could see

them on our raffle table and when they asked where we got them, we could show them his booth.
There were also a couple of face painters helping out and a magician who did a magic show near

the end of the night.

I learned about how nice the people are who ran this event. They gave us hot cider because it was

cold outside, gave us shirts for volunteering, and even let us take home a pumpkin because they

had extra. On top of this, when I asked for a letter, they eagerly wrote a letter saying that I

volunteered.

The event I helped out with was a free fall festival. I do not think anyone had to pay to get in and

I do not believe the balloon animals costed anything. I am not 100% sure but I do believe most

everything was free for the people there which I think is really awesome.

I do think I will help out with events that they put on in the future, as I had a lot of fun helping

with this event. I learned about how nice everyone was and I got to help with an awesome event.

There did not seem to be too many volunteers but there were a couple. This made me happy that

I went because I am glad I could provide an extra set of hands. All In all, it was a great

experience and I will most likely help out with other events they put on in the future.
