The ASEAN area is rich in ethnic, cultural, political, and economic variety, and it is also

a region where English is widely spoken in various ASEAN nations. In other words, English

has become an important language to support many activities such as education and business.

Crystal and Mackay claimed English became the dominant language in a variety economic and

cultural arena such as the language organizations, of the motion picture industry and popular

music of International, of publication and of education. So, it then discusses the English

language policy in each of the ASEAN members about English as a medium language for

working. Moreover, Jakarta post stated that English is enough as a working language for the

community, as it is spoken both in ASEAN and non-ASEAN countries. Based on the issue, I

strongly agree that English is a vital language used in many ASEAN activities, such as

education and business.

My first argument is English language has become a significant element for the learners

in the age of globalization. It is the primary language used to study any subject all around the

world. It is also crucial for learners because it strengthens their ideas, encourages emotional

development, and enhances their quality of life by providing career opportunities. Following

Aidil Blogger, he said that for the students, it’s very important to learn and understand the

English language for further study. This theory describes how the important of learning English

for the learners to get continuing next study. According to Niyozova (2020), Since English is

spoken in so many different counties there are thousands of schools and universities around

the world that offer programmers in English. It means that the learners have to be mastered in

using English to prepare their career.

Second, around the world, English is the most common language used for commercial

negotiations. It is the main languages used for business negotiations internationally. Most

people recognize how urgent learning business English for their career success. The goal of
using English in business is to develop their English speaking skill for interacting with others.

Based on the ASC English, negotiation is an essential part of any business career. It involves

communicating well with different business partners or companies to reach an agreement. It

can be inferred that using English language is really needed to communicate with business

partners in different countries.

Despite the using English language can give many positive effects in our daily life, but

the proliferation of using English at any time and everywhere can destroy local languages.

Gunawan in Jakarta post underlined that there is still a need for a second language depending

on the country one wishes to settle in, especially for countries where English is not widely used.

It can be showed that English language is only used for working because not all of members

ASEAN do fluency and habitually in using it.

others, pursuing the career, and negotiating commercial. However, using English language

parts of the world. People accept it proudly and want to be a part of highly esteemed things. It
