and Using Adjectives in Sentences”.

What is an Adjective?
adjective (noun): a part of speech that modifies or describes a noun or a pronoun.
An adjective is a word that tells us more about a noun. It "describes" or
"modifies" a noun (The big dog was hungry).
In these examples, the adjective is in bold and the noun that it modifies is in
italics.

An adjective often comes BEFORE a noun:

1. a green car
2. a dark sky
3. an interesting story

And sometimes an adjective comes AFTER a verb:

 My car is green.
 The sky became dark.
 His story seemed interesting.

But adjectives can also modify pronouns (She is beautiful). Look at these examples:

 They were empty.
 I thought it seemed strange.
 Those are not expensive.
 Note that we can often use two or more adjectives together
(a beautiful young French lady / it is black and white).
Unlocking Difficulties:

Pond – A pond is a small area of water that is smaller than a lake.

Quickly – in a fast or quick manner.

Splash – cause (liquid) to strike or fall on something in irregular drops.

Yummy - (of food) delicious.

Gumamela - The Hibiscus Rosa-Sinensis, commonly known as gumamela, is a four-

foot shrub with large five-petal flowers.

Modeling:
The teacher will present a short story entitled “Pat and Ben” and let the student
read and identify the adjectives in the story.

“Pat and Ben”

Pat and Ben are good friends. They like to play at the big pond. Pat looks for little
fish and Ben looks for green frogs. The green frog quickly jumped into the cold
water with a big splash. Pat told Ben he was too slow. Ben got mad at Pat. Then
Pat felt sad. Next, they found a brown lizard behind the red Gumamela. Pat tried
to catch it for ben to make him happy but the lizard got away. The yellow sun
came out and it got very hot. So, Pat and Ben sat down on the green grass to take
a short nap. Then they ran back home to get a yummy snack. It was a fun day at
the big pond.

Guided Practice:
The teacher will let the student identify the adjectives they found in the story and
write them down in their activity notebook.
Independent Practice:
The teacher will ask the students to construct their own sentences using the
adjectives they found in the story.

Application:
The teacher will group the students into 3, and let them construct a short story.
Each group will be given a topic and the story should consist of 10 to 15
sentences. They only have 20 minutes to finish the activity.

Group 1: My Big Family
