“EMPLOYEE TEACHES BOSS A LESSON”

A Reaction Paper

The boss drives people; the leader coaches them. The boss depends on authority; the leader on
good will. The boss inspires fear; the leader inspires enthusiasm. The boss says I; The leader says WE.
The boss fixes the blame for the breakdown; the leader fixes the breakdown. The boss says, GO; the
leader says Let’s GO! said Harry Gordon Selfridge.

The video I have just watched is clearly giving us a description and the difference between a
“boss” and a “leader”. A boss simply commands, while a leader takes participation in the task; a boss
belittles, while a leader empowers.

The video shows us how to be a leader rather than just a boss. A boss is someone who is only
concerned about himself, his welfare and his individual success. He is overly confident and sees his
employees as mere workers. He simply tells them what to do and looks for someone to blame when
things breakdown instead of finding a way to solve the problem. A boss boasts for his knowledge,
perceive himself as all knowing and is not open for any change or suggestions of his subordinates.

A leader on the other hand is someone who knows how to inspire his subordinates, motivate
them to learn more, influence them to be better and encourage them to do better. As leaders, we
should always have a heart for our subordinates, just because we are ahead of them doesn’t make them
less in the team. For an organization to thrive and succeed in their goals and aims, we have to make sure
that we give an importance and prioritize the welfare of our subordinates. No task can be successfully
done alone, no matter how awesome and great we are as a leader, we can only do the least thing, but
with unity among members and leaders we can achieve so much more. As what Steve Jobs used to say,
“Great things in business are never done by one person. They’re done by a team of people”. As leaders
we are to provide a great and rewarding place to work for our employees in order for them to give us a
great work. Motivating employees to work at their full potential is the main premise of successful
management according to Eraldo Banovac. If we want our business or our organization to grow larger,
we have to also appreciate the work of our employees, honor them as well as respect them for giving
them these can surely give us the biggest R.O.I, the Return on Intention.

A happy worker is a productive member. Leadership is all about touching the lives of the people
around you, leadership is all about bringing out the best among the people. Great leaders aren’t those
who succeeded in life alone, but rather those whose small actions influenced and inspired others to
succeed in life whatever it takes. And wherever we go, regardless of our work or position, we should
always practice the virtue of RESPECT for respect is a glue that holds teams and organization together.
