ADDITIONAL ACTIVITY!

 Write the lyrics of your favorite song. Then make an objective/balanced review of the
song using the four techniques. Do it in one whole sheet of paper. Your output will be
graded using the following rubric.

I wouldn't wanna be anybody else

You made me insecure
Told me I wasn't good enough
But who are you to judge
When you're a diamond in the rough
I'm sure you got some things
You'd like to change about yourself
But when it comes to me
I wouldn't want to be anybody else
Na na na
Na na na
Na na na
Na na na
I'm no beauty queen
I'm just beautiful me
Na na na
Na na na
You've got every right
To a beautiful life
C'mon
Who says
Who says you're not perfect
Who says you're not worth it
Who says you're the only one that's hurting
Trust me
That's the price of beauty
Who says you're not pretty
Who says you're not beautiful
Who says
It's such a funny thing
How nothing's funny when it's you
You tell 'em what you mean
But they keep whiting out the truth
It's like a work of art
That never gets to see the light
Keep you beneath the stars
Won't let you touch the sky
Na na na
Na na na
Na na na
Na na na
I'm no beauty queen
I'm just beautiful me
Na na na
Na na na
You've got every right
To a beautiful life
C'mon
Who says
Who says you're not perfect
Who says you're not worth it
Who says you're the only one that's hurting
Trust me
That's the price of beauty
Who says you're not pretty
Who says you're not beautiful
Who says (3x)

Objective/Balanced Review:
This song lyrics titled "Who Says" by Selena Gomez is my all-time favorite song. The
song has a strong impact on teens especially individuals with low self-esteem. It has a Pop
genre and the lyrics had many repetitions in the rhythm of the song in the chorus, making it
predictable. They use verse-chorus-bridge-chorus as a form of the song lyrics. The song lyrics
also have a different structure; in rhyme structure, the song lyric has a slow tempo, predictable
(release), and fast tempo (intensity); in harmonic structure, it uses mellow; in melodic structure,
it uses long-held notes, conjunct (release) and in phrasing, they use legato, soft, and
accelerando. In the song lyrics, you can also notice that the pattern shifts between intensity and
release patterns, mainly between the chorus and the rest of the lyrics. In addition, the choice of
lyrics of this song is impeccable because they use both comic and tragic lyrics, primarily
because it is about being yourself and having confidence in yourself, by knowing you are
valuable and capable of accomplishing anything you set your mind to. This is found in the lyrics,
“who says you're not perfect”,” who says you're not worth it”. The lyrics to this song are also
more poetic in nature, conveying a sense of finality by mentioning that you can do whatever you
want as long as you believe in yourself and that, in the end, all that matters is that you believe in
yourself. Another thing is that the song lyrics are strategically ambiguous because self-
confidence and high self-esteem are not something that many people believe they have, and
many people have difficulty dealing with these situations, with everything seen in the media
about how you should be, in order to be beautiful. The overall theme and message of the song
lyrics are to encourage young teens, particularly girls, who are insecure about themselves as a
result of society. The song's lyrics also want them to understand that they should not change
because society says so, but rather accept who they are because society will always judge
them regardless of who they are. Be yourself and the person you adore. Also, it has the goal of
trying to get individuals to know that they are not worthless and that they are beautiful inside
and out. I find that this song helps me a lot when I’m feeling down, and it helps boost my
confidence. It also encourages me to step outside of my comfort zone.
