I. Introductory Concept
Entrepreneurship education aids students from all socioeconomic backgrounds to think outside the box and nurture
unconventional talents and skills. It creates opportunities, ensures social justice, instills confidence, and stimulates the
economy. Entrepreneurship education is a lifelong learning process, starting as early as elementary school and
progressing through all levels of education, including adult education.
Introducing students to entrepreneurship develops their initiative and helps them to be more creative and self-
confident in whatever they undertake and to act in a socially responsible way. There are many ways entrepreneurship
lessons can be integrated into the school curriculum.

What is entrepreneurship?

 The activity of setting up a business or businesses, taking on financial risk in hope of profit.
 The creation of an innovative economic organization for the purpose of gain or growth under conditions of risk
and uncertainty (Mark J. Dollinger).
 The ability to create and build an enterprise from practically nothing, fundamentally a creative act (Donald F.
Kuratko).
 What people do to make their dreams and careers into their own hands and lead them in the direction of their
choice.
 About building a life on your own terms. No bosses. No restricting schedules. And no one holds you back.

Who is an Entrepreneur?

 The term “entrepreneur” comes from the French word entreprendere which means “to
undertake”
 A person who sets up a business with an aim to make a profit and creates a new business,
bearing most of the risks and enjoying most of the rewards.
 An innovator, a source of new ideas, goods, services, and business or procedures.
 Playing a key role in the economy using the skills and initiative necessary to anticipate
needs and bring good new ideas to the market.

Types of Entrepreneurs:

1. Mega Entrepreneurs- individuals who are willing to absorb huge risks of using enormous amounts of capital
in their business ventures
2. Micro-Entrepreneurs- individuals who are engaged in micro or small businesses as an alternative formal
employment
3. Social Entrepreneur- individuals who use the entrepreneurial mindset not only to improve profitability and
productivity but also improve social equality and environmental sustainability

Importance of Entrepreneurship:

 Entrepreneurship generates new wealth in the economy.


 Entrepreneurship decreases poverty.
 It creates opportunities and ensures social justice, instills confidence, and stimulates the economy.
 Entrepreneurship improves productivity.
 Entrepreneurs create jobs.
 Entrepreneurs innovate.
 Entrepreneurs give to society.

Characteristics of a Successful Entrepreneur: 3


1. Discipline - A self-disciplined entrepreneur is a master of their patience, who sees the bigger picture and sticks
to the plan. They trust their efforts and believe to achieve big, being perseverant and persistent.
2. Confidence - Entrepreneurs who have confidence attract what they desire. They present their best selves to
their potential clients and those clients feel their energy and confidence. When you know that you are the best
person to get the job done and believe in yourself, others will believe in you too.
3. Open Minded - in a business, every circumstance can be an opportunity and used for the benefit of the
company. The businessperson should be willing to consider different ideas or opinions to utilize the situation.
4. Self – Starter – someone who motivates themselves to complete tasks.
5. Competitive – wanting very much to win or be more successful than other people
6. Creative – the ability to come up with new ideas and to identify new and different ways of looking at a
problem and opportunities.
7. Determination – what allows an entrepreneur to dream of an impossible vision and make it a reality.
Determination is also about respecting the fact that the ride will be rough, have many ups and downs, and will
likely require a change of paths several times before that vision is realized.
8. Strong People Skill – defined as the ability to listen, communicate and relate to others on a personal or
professional level. Good people skills also extend to include problem-solving abilities, empathy for others,
and a willingness to work together toward the common good.
9. Strong Work Ethics –  an attitude an employee applies to their work that indicates a high level of passion for
any work they do.
10. Passionate – the most intrinsic attribute for any entrepreneur. It is a passion that fuels the entrepreneur to
commit and put their whole self towards achieving a vision; it is the same passion that propels the entrepreneur
to take risks and be innovative in their approach.

extracurricular activities, or part-time job.

2. Sales Manager- someone who knows how to represent a company, manage accounts and follow-

procedures and practices
4. Fundraiser- someone who raises money for a specific purpose and meant not to make profit but for
maintaining the organization or towards the purpose for which it was created. They understand the
business and networking relationships.
