INTRODUCTION:

Differentiated instruction is grounded in an understanding of how students learn. Instruction begins with an
assessment of what students already know and builds new concepts on their existing knowledge.
Differentiation provides students with varied experiences to engage with content. A differentiated classroom
offers multiple ways for students to access content, to process and make sense of the concepts and skills,
and to develop products that demonstrate their learning.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

The objective of the course is to assist students to:

enable students to articulate the critical components around which differentiated instruction is designed in
the areas for which differentiation is appropriate content, process and product.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

At the end of the course, the students should be able to:

LO1 : articulate the definition and critical components around which differentiated instruction is designed,
i.e. readiness, interest, learning styles and environment.
LO2: demonstrate differentiation in the three areas for which differentiation is appropriate content,
process and product.
LO3: apply models of instruction, direct instruction, guided discovery instruction and pure discovery
instructions.
LO4: use differentiated instruction in a way that accommodates diversity among students, i.e. cognitive
abilities, learning styles, socioeconomic and family factors, readiness, learning pace, gender, cultural
influences and confidence.

COURSE STRUCTURE:

Contact hours : 24
No. of weeks : 12 weeks
Lectures/Tutorials/Online Facilitation : 12 lectures /6 hours - online facilitations
