writing. These writing contains the writer's opinion and point of view about the specific
topic or subject. The column provides the writer with an opportunity to give his or her
opinion freely. As they wrote about the hot issues in society or politics, it displays their
experiences about the specific subject. Moreover, most of these experiences go in a
right direction and their sources bring up the correct information, which reveals the
hidden facts.

2. Write an opinion column regarding the requested academic break.

ACADEMIC BREAK: Is it acceptable for all?

Due to CoVid-19 pandemic, we are now in a new normal set up of education that
brings a lot of struggles not only for students, but especially to teachers and parents. It
caused a huge impact on the process of education wherein not all individuals are able
to cope up with.

There are a lot of factors to consider in this online class education like gadgets,
internet, environment, and the awareness in using digital resources. It has advantages
and disadvantages, but most people affected by this are mainly focusing to its
disadvantages, because not all of them has enough resources in participating in the
sudden changes in education. Having an academic break can somewhat contribute to
our struggles, however, as to my experienced in having the first academic break this
year in URS-Angono last January 17-29, 2022, declared due to the alarming surge in
Covid-19 cases and in consideration of the health and wellness of the faculty and
students, it caused to have the classes extended, conducting make-up classes just to
chase the academic calendar planned, and it can caused too much to some students
and teachers depending on their own status and struggles.

Now there’s another request for academic break, and as a working student, I
somewhat disagree with this because it can cause classes to be extended and it can
affect the schedules I had for my personal work and lifestyle, it’s much better to follow
the first plan for academic calendar rather than having it extended and the vacation or
personal break will be reduced. It’s much better to have only two to three days online
class in a week instead of having it every day!
