Intent
To encourage building designers and operators to evaluate the relationship between building energy use and
load shape and the electricity grid that supplies the building and to enact strategies that optimize building
peak load factor, energy time of use, demand flexibility and resilience capabilities.

Requirements
For LEED v4 BD+C projects, this pilot ACP is available as an alternative to LEED v4 EA credit Demand
Response. Project teams may earn up to 2 points plus one exemplary performance point depending on the
Option pursued.

For LEED v4.1 BD+C projects, this pilot ACP is available as an alternative to LEED v4.1 EA credit Grid
Harmonization. Project teams may earn up to 2 points plus one exemplary performance point depending on
the Option pursued.

Option 1: Calculate and Report GridOptimal Performance (1 point)

Using the energy simulation developed to document compliance with the EA Minimum Energy Performance
prerequisite or Optimize Energy Performance credit, and following the technical guidance herein, calculate
GridOptimal metrics for the baseline and proposed building cases. Submit the completed LEED GridOptimal
calculator.

GridOptimal metrics to be calculated include:

1. Grid Peak Contribution
2. Grid Carbon Alignment
3. Site Renewable Utilization Efficiency
4. Short-Term Demand Flexibility
5. Long-Term Demand Flexibility
6. Dispatchable Demand Flexibility

Calculate and report scores for all six GridOptimal Metrics for both the baseline and design building. For
each GridOptimal metric for which the Design Score is lower than the Baseline Score, produce a narrative
that describes technologies or strategies that would have improved the Design Score that were deemed
unacceptable to implement by the project team.

Option 2: Across-The-Board Improvement (2 points + 1 ID point)

Comply with the requirements of Option 1

AND

Demonstrate Minimum Score Improvement as detailed in Table 1 for at least three GridOptimal Metrics (2
points) or all six GridOptimal Metrics (2 points plus 1 Innovation Point). Help

Table 1.
GridOptimal Metric Minimum Score Improvement
Grid Peak Contribution 10
Grid Carbon Alignment 5
Site Renewable Utilization Efficiency 10

Short-Term Demand Flexibility 15

Long-Term Demand Flexibility 10
Dispatchable Demand Flexibility 5

Option 3: Focused Area Improvement (2 points + 1 ID point)

Comply with the requirements of Option 1

Demonstrate Moderate Score Improvement (2 points) or Exemplary Score Improvement (2 points plus 1
Innovation Point) as detailed in Table 2 for at least one of the six GridOptimal Metrics.

Table 2.
GridOptimal Metric Moderate Score Improvement Exemplary Score Improvement
Grid Peak Contribution 20 30

Grid Carbon Alignment 10 20

Site Renewable Utilization Efficiency 20 30
Short-Term Demand Flexibility 25 35
Long-Term Demand Flexibility 15 20

Dispatchable Demand Flexibility 10 15
