Intent
To provide restroom access for every building occupant.
Requirements
For ID+C projects, Restrooms must be included within the project scope of work in order to pursue this pilot
credit.
General:
Facilities shall meet the LEED Indoor Water Use Reduction Prerequisite requirements.
Facilities shall provide means for the distribution of menstruation hygiene products.
OR
2a. Single-Stall
Two single-stall, all-gender restrooms shall be provided with each bank of multi-stall, gendered
restrooms.
The single-stall facilities shall meet ADA or equivalent local code, whichever is more stringent,
requirements for restroom layout and accessibility.
2b. Multi-Stall
A third multi-stall facility shall be added to the traditionally gendered multi-stall facilities present in
restroom banks.
The all-gender facility shall be of a commensurate quality to the gendered facilities.
The multi-stall, all-gender facility shall have at least one stall that meets ADA or equivalent local
code, whichever is more stringent, requirements for restroom layout and accessibility.
Refer to Table 403.1: Minimum Number of Required Plumbing Fixtures in the 2021 International Plumbing
Code (IPC) Requirements for required fixtures in each facility.
Fixture calculations for each sex are determined by dividing the total number of occupants in half. Any
fractions from multiplying this quantity by the fixture ratio shall be rounded up.

Exceptions
Total occupant load doesn’t need to be divided in half if data indicates that there is an
uneven distribution of sexes.
If multi-user facilities are to serve people of all genders, the minimum fixture count is based
on the total occupant load and any urinals shall be in stalls.
Sex distribution is not necessary if installing single-user facilities. Single-user facilities
contribute to the total number of fixtures for a space and are to be open for use by any
person.
In public spaces, “customers, patrons and visitors shall be provided with public toilet facilities” that are
easily accessible by the public. Employees will have their own facilities.
The doors to toilet rooms cannot be in a room used to prepare food for general consumption.
Educational Notes:
1. Urinals and dual-flush toilets are important water-saving devices in restrooms. Project teams may
consider installing urinals and dual-flush toilets in all-gender restrooms in order to increase water
efficiency.
2. Project teams may consider providing additional restroom facilities beyond what is required by code to
ensure restroom access for all occupants.
