DOCUMENT MANUFACTURING PROCEDURE SPECIFICATION
FOR ANODE INSTALLATION
REVISION B
1. SCOPE
This procedure shall apply to all operations required for the anode installation onto the Fusion Bonded
Epoxy (FBE) anti-corrosion coated pipe before/after the application of concrete weight coating for PT.
Medco E&P Natuna Ltd. - Belida Extension Project. This procedure shall also apply to the supervision
and application associated in the welding of anode inserts, attachment of bonding cables, including re-
instating of protective coatings. In some cases, the anode installation maybe installed after (or termed
‘retrofitting’) the concrete weight coating application when anodes are not readily available due to delay
in its deliveries.
2. DEFINITIONS
▪ COMPANY PT. Medco E&P Natuna Ltd., as the ultimate user and owner.
▪ CONTRACTOR PT. Timas Suplindo, an engineering, procurement, construction and
installation (EPCI) contractor companies awarded by COMPANY.
▪ SUB-CONTRACTOR PT. Krakatau Pipe Industries, as the steel pipes and pipeline
coatings manufacturer.
▪ SUPPLIER / VENDOR PT. Gesit Nazelo Protection, as the manufacturing or installation
companies of sacrificial anode cathodic protection systems.
▪ ABASET Aluminium Bracelet Anode Square Ends Type
▪ CWC Concrete Weight Coating

4. ANODE REQUIREMENT
4.1. ANODE PREPARATION
The internal surface and sides of each half-anode will be cleaned of dirt and any other
contaminants. The outer surfaces of the anode inserts (straps) shall be ground to remove rust
and/or any aluminum zinc-indium alloy spatter or debris, giving the area a bright steel finish in
preparation for welding.
Anode shall be inspected to verify if there are any defects. Internal anode surface shall be carefully
inspected for defects (protrusion or sharp edges) that could damage the FBE Coating.
The FBE + CWC coated line pipe shall be positioned on the support racks, over the anode lifting
saddle. The pipe will be positioned until the longitudinal seam weld (if any) is located around either
the 12 or 6 o'clock position or approximately 150mm of the weld seam. Once positioned the lifting
saddle will raise the lower half shell of anode to the stationary pipe and hold it in position. The
second half shell of anode shall be offered to the pipe and positioned over the first half shell, by
means of crane jib. The two halves shall be carefully aligned and drawn tightly together using
webbing tensioners, chain come-along or similar.
A certain quantity of FBE + CWC coated pipe joints (normally 10% of daily production) shall be
daily transferred to the anode installation station.
The centering of the anode along the pipe shall be in a manner that allows for casing segments to
be fed onto the pipes.

REVISION B
Welding will be by metal arc process as described in Anode Installation Data, Table 1 under this
procedure.
Fillet welding shall then be carried out continuously around three edges of the overlapping straps
of the half shell anode. An insulating material shall be placed under the weld area to guard against
heat damage to the anticorrosion coating.
Electrodes will be baked as per manufactures instructions. The Welder will keep electrodes in an
approved quiver during use and return unused electrodes to the holding oven when not working.
Each anode is manufactured with bonding leads; the bonding leads may be cut using a cable cutter
or hacksaw to remove corroded copper. The cable should be looped (pig tailed) so as not to be
taut after welding.
The end 25mm of HMWPE sheathing is stripped back to expose clean copper cable. The cable
may be cleaned with a wire brush if required.
Cad welding (Exothermic Welding) shall be carried out in accordance with the Anode Installation
Data, Table 1 under this procedure.

4.6. RE-WELD
In the event of an unacceptable weld under the test/inspection procedure, the weld shall be
removed and the area ground flush with the pipe steel without damaging the steel or reducing the
thickness. A new weld shall be performed at a location not less than 50 mm (2 in) from the original
weld area.
• The exposed areas of line pipe around the Cad weld and anode straps shall be wire brushed to a
clean finish.
• The welds areas and all bare steel shall then be coated using bitumen based primer material or
approved repair material.

6. ANODE COMPLETION
After final inspection, the Anode completion procedure will be carried out, consisting of the infill of the
gaps between anode halves with asphalt mastic method application.
If wire mesh is used, and after concrete application, the wire mesh shall be trimmed back at the edge of
anode at leave a 25- 50mm gap. Electrical continuity test shall be carried out to ensure that the mesh is
not shorted to the anode pipe
The gaps between the anode and concrete weight coating are filled with like material using asphalt
mastic.
A continuity check between Anode and pipe shall be performed at the curing bay when concrete is cured
and prior to moving the pipe to storage.
7. INSPECTION CONTROL
7.1. CAD WELD
Each production welding operative will be qualified by demonstrating their capability to perform a
Cad weld. Each weld shall be mechanically tested by a single blow from a 1kg hammer, aimed at
90 degrees to the sample surface - no lifting or fracturing will result.
Electrical continuity test shall be carried out between pipe and anode
