NEWS CORNER
We examine how talent management programs are assisting
& businesses in striking the ideal balance between promoting
HR FACTS employee flexibility and preventing burnout and digital weariness.
The demand for flexible work has been louder than any other change
PAGE 5
when it comes to how workplace patterns have changed in recent
years. While still in its infancy during the pre-covid era, the abrupt
PSYCHOLOGY CORNER transition to remote employment made the ability to work from
home and have flexible hours a need for the majority of people. The
& pattern persisted as employees' need for flexibility increased as
QUIZ TIME businesses adopted a hybrid working environment.
PAGE 6
In the context of contemporary workplaces, the word "flexible
working" can have several different connotations. It might mean
different things to different people. For some, it implies the ability
to work remotely. The employees' demand for freedom in how they
choose to work, however, has not changed. Additionally, this
demand for flexibility extends to leadership roles, as seen by the fact
that 47% of executives worldwide plan to apply for jobs that are not
close to where they now live in the coming year, according to
Microsoft's Work Trend Index 2022 (WTI).
This transition to flexible employment has been made feasible by firms' usage of
digital platforms for daily operations. And indications indicate that after the outbreak,
their use has increased dramatically. Similar changes were identified in Microsoft's
Work Trend Index for 2022. The survey noted that since February 2020, the average
Teams user's weekly time spent in meetings has increased by 252 percent
internationally, indicating an increase in communication through Microsoft Teams.
However, even though flexibility is on the verge of becoming the standard in business,
organisations must tread carefully.
They must make sure that the push for flexibility in remote or hybrid work doesn't
lead to burnout and tiredness among the workforce.
According to the WTI research, businesses must make sure that employee flexibility
doesn't translate into being "always on." The research continues, "After-hours work
and workday span are still rising, as are the number of weekly meetings and
conversations per individual. The survey highlighted a 13 percent average increase in
the length of the workday and a 28 percent average increase in after-hours
employment.
While workplace technologies like Microsoft Viva's talent solutions help businesses
create workflows that support flexible work, they still need to be very careful to strike
a balance between productivity and the risk of burnout.

Furthermore, limiting flexibility is undoubtedly not the solution, despite the fact that
it may expose workers to tiredness, burnout, or isolation. Employee demand for
flexible work is at an all-time high, with younger workforce generations leading the
pack. According to the WTI report, people are gradually modifying flexible work to
meet their needs. Because of this, businesses find it challenging to eliminate flexible
work.
Companies need the appropriate digital solutions to successfully strike the correct
balance between offering flexible work options without running the danger of
contributing to fatigue and burnout. those that can offer simple-to-build workflow
solutions for remote and hybrid teams.
Viva assists businesses in doing that and is run by Microsoft 365 and experienced
through Microsoft Teams. by encouraging a culture that allows individuals and teams
to perform at their peak from any location. Microsoft Viva solutions offer a set of tools
that make sure businesses' workplaces can accommodate the growing demand for
flexibility and the shift to hybrid work without compromising its productivity and
growth, whether it's a robust platform that helps create a workplace where employees
have the flexibility to engage and participate from anywhere or a learning tool that
ensures employees can learn and grow together, irrespective of physical distance.
This is important in light of how many today feel they are always on, whether they
work "flexibly" or in a "hybrid setting". While companies focus on building newer, more
productive ways of working, it's important to note the role of flexible work in
attracting, retaining, and engaging employees. And while it might be a simple task to
shift to remote or hybrid work, using the right workplace talent solutions enable
companies to create the right balance and avoid digital exhaustion.
