MAJOR UPGRADATION CHENNAI EGMORE RAILWAY STATION

2. Pile Foundations has been designed for Allowable Pile Capacity of (600 mm Pile
Diameter): - 551 kN in Compression and 128.8 kN Lateral Capacity at 13.00 from Sea
Bed.

Water Retaining Structures

Water retaining structures shall be designed as per IS: 456 -2000 and IS: 3370 – 2009 (Part

-2). Since water retaining structures are subjected to cyclic loading (full or empty conditions).
thus, as structural concept all water retaining structures shall be designed based on working
stress method, and stress limitations in concrete and steel shall be as per IS :3370 – 2009 (Part-
2).

Retaining Walls

Retaining walls are used to retain earth at location where there is level difference in ground
level. Retaining walls are designed for stability (overturning and sliding) and checked for
bending and shear. Active earth pressure coefficient is applied based on supporting
condition.

Expansion joint

If the length of Building will more than 45m, for avoiding the expansion joint we will carry out
Thermal Analysis for the Building. No expansion joint will be provided in the structure and
stresses developed to temperature load are considered in the design.

Analysis shall be carried out for ambient temperature variation. The temperature variation
shall be considered as average maximum annual variation in temperature. The average
maximum annual variation in temperature for this purpose shall be taken as the different
between the mean of the daily minimum temperature during the coldest month of the year
and mean of daily maximum temperature during the hottest month of the year.

Temperature Differential (∆T) Tmax = 41 °C

Tmin = 26 °C

Temperature Load shall be 2/3 of difference between maximum & min temperature i.e., =
10°C.

Coefficient of thermal expansion for concrete and steel is written above. Temperature loads
shall also be considered in load combinations as per SP24.
