PROCEDURE FOR CHECKING CASING COLLAR LOCATORS

Apparatus: Digital Multimeter or Digital Blasters Multimeter. Titan Model #9000-14836 or #9000-74836.

1.Set meter to 20k ohm scale.

2.Connect one lead to the top receptacle

of the Collar Locator and the other lead
to the case of the Collar Locator as
shown in Figure 1.

3.The resistance should read as

follows in the table below.

4.Set the meter to the diode position.

(See inset Figure 1)

5.Connect one lead to the top receptacle

of the Collar Locator and the other lead
to the bottom receptacle. Dual diodes
should read from 0.5 to 0.7 volts.
Quad diodes should read from 1.0 to
1.4 volts. Readings assume a temperature
of 25°C/77°F when checking. Colder
temperatures increase voltage while warmer
temperatures decrease voltage readings.

6.Reverse the leads. The readings

should be the same.

CCL P/N DIAMETER Ohms RESISTANCE

0257-500-001 3 1/8” 1550 +/-100
0262-000-020 1” 1200 +/-100
0263-000-020 1 7/16” 1300 +/-100
0264-500-000 1 11/16” 2400 +/-100
0265-500-000 2 1/8” 2950 +/-100
0266-500-000 4 1/2” 3500 +/-100
0268-500-000 2 3/4” 6500 +/-500

Note 1. Taking a reading from the bottom receptacle to the top receptacle does not indicate the condition of the
Collar Locator, but only the voltage drop of the diodes and the continuity of the circuit.

Note 2. A failure to get a reading by the method described above indicates no ground between the case and the
coil or a broken coil wire. In either case, the Collar Locator will not function properly.
