THESIS STATEMENT

Having a low IQ will not define you as a person, because the ability of an individual with a
kind/natural heart has no restrictions.
SUMMARY

The movie begins with Forrest Gump telling several individuals who are seated next to
him about his life while he is sitting on a bench in Savannah, Georgia. The plot is delivered
Through a sequence of flashbacks. In Greenbow, Alabama, Forrest grows up living with his
single mother (Mrs. Gump). Forrest, who has an IQ of 75 and has braces on his legs, was
brought up by his mother to believe that he is just like everyone else. On his first day in school,
the only child who will let Forrest sit next to her on the school bus on his first day is a young girl
called Jenny. One day when Forrest is being pursued by bullies, Jenny tells him to run. What
happened next is his braces fall off, and he discovers that he can run so fast. Due to his talent in
running, he joins the high school football team and receives a football scholarship to the
University of Alabama. He grows up to become an innocent, straightforward adult. Forrest then
got a recommendation and joins the U.S. Army and is sent to Vietnam. In the U.S. Army camp,
He found his best friend called Bubba Blue, who convinced Forrest that they will operate a
shrimp boat together when they have been released from the service, and he became close to
his commanding officer, Lieutenant Dan too. However, when they got ambushed in Vietnam,
Bubba gets killed, and Forrest saves several of his allies including Lieutenant Dan in a battle in
which Dan loses his legs and Forrest got wounded. Forrest Gump got awarded by the president
the Medal of Honor. While Forrest is recovering, he learns how to play table tennis well enough
to defeat Chinese table tennis players and then he became famous for his skills. After Forrest
gets discharged, he finds himself at an antiwar rally, where he encounters his beloved Jenny
then after that, he also met a bitter and alcoholic Lieutenant Dan, who is following a hippie
lifestyle. Forrest later returns to Alabama and visits Bubba's Family. after that, he buys a
shrimping boat which he promised to Bubba. Lieutenant Dan then joins him in creating the
successful Bubba-Gump Shrimp Co. Later he got called from home saying that her mother is
dying. Forrest hurried home and watched her mother's final moments. Lieutenant Dan then tells
Forrest that He invests the profits in Apple Computer, and both men become wealthy. After that,
Jenny visits Forrest in his house and lives with him shortly. Forrest proposed to Jenny but she
declined it. Jenny leaves and Forrest spends the next three years and two months running back
and forth across the country. Jenny then sees him on TV and finally introduces Forrest to their
son named after him. Forrest and Jenny are married shortly before Jenny dies and Forrest is
taking a good care of their son.
REFLECTION

The movie called "Forrest Gump" is a story about a man that has an IQ of 75 who lives
with her single mother. Even though he faces so many hardships in life like getting bullied, going
to war and losing your loved ones. He continuously finds motivation to carry on with his life's
journey.

At first, I felt sad for Forrest, because of his disabilities he is always getting bullied and
being mocked on how stupid he is. And then one day, when Forrest is being chased by bullies,
his leg braces came off and then he ran so swiftly that he got recognized by a football team in
their high school and got a scholarship. I'm also happy and proud of Forrest, because even
though he had lost a lot of his loved ones throughout his journey, he still always managed to
stand up on his feet, move on and continue the journey of his life.

My overall learning in this movie is that having a low IQ will not define you as a person,
because the ability of an individual with a kind/natural heart has no restrictions. I also learned
that someone with mental illness is capable of being a better person than anyone else in this
world.
